We are recruiting for a Consultant Surgeon in Trauma & Orthopaedicswho shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.
This is an excellent opportunity to join the Trauma and Orthopedic department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. The successful applicant will join a service that prides itself in effective leadership, innovative thinking, and excellent teamwork. We strive to challenge our existing working practices and to constantly improve our service to deliver best practice guidance and to ensure that our patient outcomes are successful, and they feel valued during their visits to the Trust.
Applicants should possess expertise in general orthopaedic trauma and all aspects of knee surgery. A specific interest in cartilage regeneration, periarticular osteotomy, multi-ligament knee reconstruction and patella-femoral joint surgery is desirable. The successful applicant would be expected to assist with the development of day case knee arthroplasty surgery and robotic surgery.
Main duties of the job
Participation in the provision of general orthopaedic trauma care
All aspects of Knee Surgery
Work collaboratively with the existing Consultants to lead and develop the service
Maintenance of high quality patient centred care
Teaching and training within the multidisciplinary service
Active involvement in multidisciplinary team meetings and
directorate clinical governance activity
Active participation in departmental research

Qualifications/Training
Essential
Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register
FRCS Tr & Orth or qualification of an equivalent level
Higher Trauma and Orthopedic (or equivalent) training
Fellowship training in Knee Surgery
Desirable
Postgraduate degree (or equivalent) related to Orthopaedics (e.g., Masters/MD/MRes/PhD etc)
Soft tissue knee and Periarticular Knee Osteotomy Fellowship
Knee Arthroplasty / Robotic Knee Fellowship
Previosu Experience
Essential
Broad range of experience in Trauma and Orthopaedics
Proficient in management and treatment of complex peri-articular knee trauma
Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues
Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion
Desirable
Experience of Orthopedic Trauma in a UK Major Trauma Centre
Demonstrable Orthopedic Trauma experience in a Locum Consultant or Consultant role
Demonstrable Soft Tissue Knee/Knee Osteotomy experience in a Locum Consultant or Consultant role
Experience of setting up a Robotic Knee Arthroplasty Service
Experience in day case arthroplasty surgery
Evidence of leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice
Published papers and original work in peer reviewed journals
Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of audit, evidence based practice, and clinical quality improvement initiatives
Demonstrable experience and active participation in research and development
