Job summaryWe are seeking an experienced full-time Consultant Psychiatrist who will work at Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke and provide senior medical cover on our 12-bed male PICU service which deals with emergency and crisis admissions.The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician and will oversee and maintain the care of all ward inpatients as required and will also have responsibility for auditing the medical services rendered at the ward and ensuring their good quality in accordance to GMC standards of good medical practice and other relevant professional guidelines.In this role, your expertise will be the driving force for life-changing treatment fully supported by a Specialty Doctor and first-class multidisciplinary team including qualified nurses, psychologist and occupational therapist.And you'll have the opportunity to progress to Medical Director Level through our management schemes.Main duties of the jobCygnet Hospital Kewstoke has a "Good" overall CQC rating and provides emergency admissions services for men and women, and a pathway for women to rehabilitation including a specialist service for personality disorder for up to 71 patients.Nash Ward is our male PICU service which deals with emergency and crisis admissions. Our aim is a short, rapid intervention to help people regain a sense of control and order in their lives, so they can move to a less restrictive care setting and return home.Service users usually come to us in crisis, may be non-compliant with their medication or this could be their first presentation with mental health symptoms. All service users are detained under the Mental Health Act.The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician and have overall medical responsibility of patient treatment, whilst liaising closely with the Multi-Disciplinary Team (Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Registered Mental Health Nurses, Social Workers etc.)The post holder will be expected to act as a positive role model, maintaining and demonstrating a positive attitude towards patients, their families, visitors and other staff.All our patients are NHS patients. This role is based onNash Ward,ourmale PICU service which can support up to 12 patients.The ethos of our service is about assessing and treating service users in the least restrictive environment and planning for discharge in a robust and timely fashion. With a focus on stabilisation, we will support service users to manage their mental health, reinforce daily living skills and prepare for independent life back in the community.Service users on Nash have support from the full MDT with a range of interventions available including occupational therapy, psychology, social work, advocacy, IMHAH services and access to a GP. We excel in quickly stabilising some of the most acutely unwell service users.Our multi-disciplinary team works across the whole hospital and makes use of a broad range of therapies, including CBT, Schema Therapy, EMDR and DBT that are tailored to individual needs. We run a number of groups, such as a Hearing Voices Group, which many of our service users find useful as a way to share their experience.Cygnet Hospital Kewstokeprovides an emergency admissions servicefor men and a pathway for women from low secure to rehabilitation including a specialist servicefor personality disorder and has a"Good" overall CQC rating.The hospital has more than 16 acres of landscaped grounds and overlooks the Bristol Channel.
