The ideal candidate will be a General Ophthalmologist with a subspecialty interest in Ocular Plastics which supports or is complimentary to existing team.Ophthalmology is part of the Planned Care Directorate at East Cheshire NHS Trust (ECT) which is one of three Directorates within the Trust. The post holder is expected to have general ophthalmology experience and the post holder is expected to be fully competent in phacoemulsification - cataract surgery.Applicants must be on the General Medical Council Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted (at the date of interview) to the Register for trainees if in a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the GMC Specialist Register to be considered for a consultant appointment by the Advisory Appointments Committee.Applicants must continue to hold a Licence to Practise and full details of the person specification.Main duties of the jobThe key responsibilities of the role include:The appointee will take a share of the Consultant Clinical responsibilities within the department. This will include:Active involvement and leadership in management and decision making of complex ophthalmic cases.Being available during the working week so that medical and nursing staff can communicate and consult freely.Close liaison with the Operational Line managers and the Clinical Lead to ensure that waiting list targets and associated standards are achieved.Ensuring that management plans are clearly displayed in the notes of patients with complex needs.Working for our organisationNHS Medical and Dental salaries are set at a national level. For new starters not already working to UK Medical and Dental terms and conditions of service will be appointed to the minimum paypoint. The starting salary paypoint can only be increased when there is evidence of relevant, completed year’s experience in terms of nature, type and level of role.
