Job summaryWe are looking to appoint to a whole-time Consultant Ophthalmologist with an interest in Medical Retina to be employed by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.The STH Medical Retina Service is one of the most comprehensive and advanced in the country. At the present time our service for age-related macular degeneration (ARMD) is one of the largest in the country.We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.Should any further vacancies arise shortlisted applicants will be considered.Main duties of the jobThe appointee will, together with Consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive, effective and modern Ophthalmology service, practising the full remit of the specialty.They will take his/her equal share in providing sub-specialty cover and will be required to cover for colleagues during periods of absence. He/she will have continuing responsibility for patients in his/her care and the proper functioning of the Department.Appointments are made to the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the person appointed is required to be sufficiently flexible to undertake their main clinical duties at any of the sites within the Trust and/or to change their base hospital.The successful candidate will work according to the terms and conditions of the national consultant contract.About usLocated on rolling hills and dissected by river valleys, Sheffield is one of the greenest and most wooded cities in Europe. Qualifications

EssentialFull and Specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview.If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.DesirableMD or PhD or equivalentFurther qualifications in research methods, teaching and/or managementARSAC licence holder

Clinical experience
