The Consultant will have responsibility for providing a specialist glaucoma and comprehensive ophthalmic service in conjunction with their consultant colleagues. We are dedicated to providing high quality care for the population of South East Norfolk and North East Suffolk. The post is based at the James Paget Hospital, with outreach clinics at Beccles, as outlined in the job plan (see above).The position provides an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified specialist to actively contribute to the further development of a modern Ophthalmology service within this highly regarded Trust, with its wide range of acute and community services, which will afford high professional visibility. Main duties of the jobThe DepartmentThe outpatient department is run by Sister Julie Mitchell / Sister Louise Nunney and is well-equipped, with:Nine consulting rooms, each containing standard ophthalmic instrumentsTwo orthoptic roomsPhotographic roomLaser treatment roomVisual field examination roomTreatment room.Also available in the department are:-Humphrey (x4) VF analyzers.Ellex pattern frequency doubled Nd:YAG laser, Ellex Nd:YAG laser, and SLT laserA and B Ultrasound standardized echographyFarnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue testDigital Retinal camera(KOWA) and wide-field OPTOS CameraHRA2 Fluorescein, ICG and Autofluorescence cameraSpectralis OCT MACHINES × 4 at JPUH site AND 1 OCTA Angiography system at Beccles.Auto-refractorCorneal Specular MicroscopyMICS cataract surgery equipment - Bausch & Lomb Stellaris (x2)Working for our organisationThe Trust provides comprehensive acute care for the population of Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and the South Waveney area and for many visitors to the area. This acute care provided from the James Paget University Hospital site at Gorleston is supported by other community services at the Newberry Centre, Kirkley Rise North Lowestoft, and outreach clinics. The Trust serves a population of approximately 230,000, with 500 beds, 3,370 members of staff, both full and part time and a budget of £129 million per annum. Provision with Consultant colleagues of a service to the JamesPaget University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, withresponsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illnessand the proper functioning of the department;2. Out-of-hours responsibilities, including participation in Consultanton-call rota where applicable;3. Cover for colleagues’ annual leave and other authorised absences;4. Any responsibility which relates to a special interest;5. Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff;6. Responsibilities for carrying out teaching, examination andaccreditation duties as required and for contributing toundergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical educationactivity, locally and nationally;7. Participating in medical audit, the Trust’s Clinical Governanceprocesses and in CPD;8. Involvement in research;9. Managerial, including budgetary, responsibilities whereappropriate;10.
