Consultant in Medical Oncology Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust has a vision to be recognized as a world-class hospital, leading the field through innovative healthcare solutions, focusing on the best outcomes for our patients, delivered in a safe, caring and inspiring environment.We are looking for a new consultant colleague to join our Urological & Melanoma team, which is responsible for Urological Cancer at St Richards Hospital in Chichester, as well as Melanoma services throughout Portsmouth and Chichester. Portsmouth Oncology Centre treats patients with urological malignancies in Queen Alexandra Hospital Portsmouth, St Richards Hospital in Chichester, and St Mary's Hospital on the Isle of Wight. There is a centralised Urological MDT for patients from Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight, as well as a separate St Richards Urological MDT. Each hospital has its own clinic, as well as chemotherapy treatment day units. Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth provides all radiation. The Urology MDT is comprised of a dedicated team of experienced surgeons; laparoscopic and robotic surgical procedures are available. Radiographers in training, including a Consultant Radiographer. Clinical nurse specialists and nurse/pharmacy prescribers assist oncology clinics. Prostate brachytherapy is a well-known treatment. Everyone is dedicated to providing the greatest possible patient care and outcomes. The Melanoma/Skin MDT is supported by a world-class dermatological team situated at St Marys Hospital in Portsmouth. This is a high-volume, tertiary referral centre that offers a full range of diagnostic and treatment options, including sentinel node biopsy and Mohs surgery, as well as on-site plastic surgery support. TVEC and ECT services have been established, and there is a commitment to R&D. Clinical and medical oncologists work alongside clinical nurse specialists and a nurse prescriber on the oncological team. This is an excellent opportunity to be working alongside such talented individuals. Here are is a preview of what the job role will entail: The appointee will join the Oncology Team as a Medical Oncology Consultant and will be expected to participate in all facets of departmental activity. A full-time substantive Consultant Oncologist post of 10 PA is available, covering the job plan as detailed below. A part-time appointment would be considered with appropriate reduction in clinical responsibilities.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential • Fully registered with GMC with a licence to practice • Entry on the GMC Medical Oncology Specialist Register, CCT (or within 6 months at interview), or CESR or European Community Rights Desirable • MRCP or equivalent • BSc • MD Clinical Experience Essential • Evidence of expertise in the areas of special interest relevant to the Job Plan Desirable • Breadth of experience in and outside speciality. • Evidence of a clinical or research fellowship
