Job overviewApplications are invited for a full-time (10PA) Consultant in Medical Haematology at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.The post holder will be placed within the laboratory and Medical Haematology Service.The successful candidate will join an established team within the Medical Haematology Service, automated haematology laboratory, specialist haematosis laboratory and transfusion laboratory and which currently has 5 Consultant staff. The automated laboratory is UKAS ISO 151#####012 accredited.This is a replacement post in General Haematology with a special focus on Immune Haematology and Anaemia. The applicant would also be expected to take the lead in the Perioperative Anaemia Service and to be the Trust Lead in Immune Thrombocytopenia.Main duties of the jobApplicants should have experience of laboratory Haematology as well as leadership, strong communication skills and desire to improve quality.There is no requirement to work in Haemato-Oncology diagnostics in this post. You will be fully registered with the GMC and ideally have a CCT in Haematology or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. As such the post holder is responsible for supporting the Blood Sciences Laboratory Director in providing laboratory services for the Haematology Automated Laboratory as defined by ISO 1#####:2012 as Clinical Lead for this service.The post holder will provide clinical service, support/initiation of clinical research/trials, supervision of Trainees, introduction of new technologies/services in line with Pathology overall strategy as well as lead on regulatory accreditation issues.It is expected that there will be teaching within the role to support the training of Specialty Registrars (ST3+) to gain competency in laboratory Haematology and General Haematology.The successful applicant will look after patients with non-malignant haematological disorders in the general haematology clinic including anaemia and immunohaematological conditions such as immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). CUH is recognised as an ITP clinical centre.This is an exciting time within Medical Haematology with a portfolio of trials and clinical research. The post will include participation in inpatient ward rounds & consults for patients with non-malignant haematological disorders and participation in the non-malignant on-call rota (1:5 currently) which covers CUH and Royal Papworth Hospital.
