Paediatric EM (PEM) or Adult EM (AEM) consultants are invited to apply. The department will support any candidate to create a crossover role in PEM and AEM if required. The candidate will work 10PAs and be part of a 1 in 7 weekends on call rota. Consultants participate in self rostering to maximise their work-life balance. The post is designed to address the service demand of a busy specialist teaching hospital.We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our Emergency Department. We are proud to have a clinically led Emergency Department and are expanding our consultant numbers to support our consultant- led service in a new EM facility. Main duties of the jobThe job plan will include the following activities: • Emergency Physician in Charge (EPIC) • Weekday, weekend and on call cover• Consultant ward round in Adult Assessment Unit (for Adult EM Consultants) • Overseeing the Same Day Emergency Care unit • Providing telephone clinical advice to GP, LAS and other community providers which result in either treatment, presentation to ED or redirection• Participation in Specialist Multidisciplinary Meetings • Governance, complaints and incident management• Revalidation and audit• Delivering teaching to trainee and non-trainee doctors• Educational and clinical supervision of junior doctors You will join an existing team of 12 WTE consultants to work across our newly built state of the art emergency department which incorporates:• A majors area with capacity for 24 patients• Six bedded Resuscitation Room,• A separate RAT ( Rapid assessment and triage area) • A custom built Ambulatory Care Unit/ SDEC Unit consisting of 6 treatment rooms and one MDT room. • 30 bedded short stay ward integrated with Acute medicine and Geriatrics including CDU chair spaces• Specialist Paediatric Emergency Unit with • Urgent treatment Centre , Minor illness management area and Acute SDEC area for minor illness & injuries, NHS 111 and Integrated GP hubWe are a tertiary referral centre for several specialties and enjoy an excellent working relationship with our colleagues within the wider Trust.Working for our organisationThese are exciting times; we have developed new ways of working across the whole of our acute care service, using internally developed QI methodology. Excellent CPG pathway design and 360 degree staff engagement enables the department to consistently move with trends and changes in EM patient care. We are located in an area with excellent facilities and Hampstead Heath close by. There are many local coffee shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants with an impressive high street and direct access to central London. As a team we recognise that a work/life balance is vital, and a thriving social life is enjoyed amongst the ED staff. There will be an opportunity for the post holder to develop a specific area of self-directed interest which compliments the other consultants.We welcome candidates who are on the GMC Specialist Register as Emergency Medicine Consultants in Paediatric EM, Adult EM or those holding dual CCT. We will welcome holders with other sub-specialty interests within Emergency medicine including research to apply for the position. In 2022-2023 we saw 121,000 patients, approximately 22% ( 24,000) of these were paediatric attendances.Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesThe post comprises 10 Programmed Activities, of which 2 will be as SPA( and an additional DCC can be negotiated) with an on call commitment. We welcome LTFT candidates as we understand the need for flexibility; equally we are able to offer up to 12 pa’s for those wanting to work more hours. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop their portfolio and extend their interests and strengths in Emergency Medicine.
