We are seeking to appoint a Consultant in Cardiac Surgery with a Specialist Interest in Septal Myectomy and Digital Remote Monitoring. This is a full-time position (10 PAs). The successful candidate will join a well-established team and will play a key role in developing cardiac surgery services further.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of cardiac & septal myectomy surgical services to Barts Health.
An additional role is to deliver and further develop a new Virtual Ward service using an established digital platform and expand its usage to our referring hospitals.
To enhance and further develop a world class septal myectomy service
Participate in the multidisciplinary Inherited Cardiovascular Disease team, contributing to the development of complex treatments, innovations and research
To undertake 2 days of operating.
The consultant clinical responsibilities which are involved in patient care including participation in the Consultant of the Week rota.
Once clinic per week with new and follow-up outpatients.
To provide diagnosis and treatment of patients in hospitals and clinics within the Trust
To provide evidence-based care for all patients.
To liaise effectively and on a timely basis with colleagues, managers, general practitioners, community services, and all healthcare agencies.
To maintain and promote team and multi-disciplinary work, working particularly closely and regularly with existing post-holders
To participate fully in the management of the department and to liaise closely with the general manager and the Clinical and CAG Group Director and management team

Job responsibilities
Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care.
Leadership, development and organisation of the services in his/her charge in line with the Trusts business plans. Liaison and communication with the Clinical Director, the General Manager and the CAG Group Director.
Corporate and individual responsibility for the professional management of doctors in training.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
MB BS, or equivalent
FRCS(CTh) or equivalent
On GMC Specialist Register for cardiothoracic surgery or within 6 months of attaining CCT.
Desirable
Higher Research Degree MD or PhD
Clinical Experience
Essential
Comprehensive training in Adult Cardiac Surgery in dedicated units.
Desirable
Demonstrative subspeciality experience in Septal Myectomy surgery
Demonstrate experience in perioperative management of patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
International fellowship in cardiac surgery

Able to provide evidence of clinical audit and demonstrate understanding of impact and challenges this brings.
Ability to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of current and future NHS challenges and strategy.
