As part of this strategy, we are proactively taking steps to ensure that we recruit and retain the highest quality of talent to provide CARE and we would welcome applications from under-represented groups to ensure our Trust is an inclusive and diverse employer.Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesThe appointments will allow annualised / blocks of GIM, both ward in-patient working and a weekly outpatient clinic (potentially moving towards a rapid access clinic). It is envisaged that all new appointments will work 2 x blocks of 7 weeks on the wards, but services and individuals may choose to work variations on this theme, depending on other specialist commitments.The general medical emergency on-call rota – Frequency will be reduced to 1:11 weekdays. The on-call Consultant must be available between 2200-0800 for advice and to come in if required. The evening and morning weekday ward rounds are undertaken by the Acute Physicians. Acute and GIM weekend rounds – please see job plan for details.Provision of a comprehensive inpatient medical service.Responsibility for diagnosis and treatment of elderly patients.Undertake a weekly outpatient clinicTo participate in the 1:11 Consultant on-call rota as agreed with appointee.Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.Person specificationQualificationsMBBS or equivalent.Membership with the relevant Royal College for Physicians.GMC registration and license to practice.Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Geriatrics and general medicine via a. CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview), b. CESR or (c) European Community rightsHigher degree e.g MD, PhD, Masters in other subjects (Education leadership)Experience and SkillsShould have completed a recognised training programme in General Internal Medicine.Must be able to demonstrate a hight level of clinical experience and competence in GIMKnowledge of current trends in speciality.TeachingExperience of teaching and training undergraduates, post-graduates and junior medical staff.Audit and ResearchEvidence of participation in clinical audit relevant to specialty.Published audits.MotivationCommitment to the development of a high quality cost effective service to.ManagementKnowledge and understanding of current NHS issues.Ability to develop services.Personal SkillsEnergy and enthusiasm and the ability to work under pressureAn enquiring and critical approach to workCaring attitude to patientsCommitted to on-going professional development.Employer certification / accreditation badgesYou must have appropriate UK professional registration.This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
