The Royal London also houses one of the largest children's hospitals in the UK, a major dental hospital, and leading stroke and renal units.Job descriptionJob responsibilitiesGeneral responsibilitiesThe appointee will be expected to cover the following main areas of work:To have and maintain full registration with a license to practice from the General Medical Council. Medical Staff are advised to continue membership of one of the medical defence organizationsTo have regard at all times to the clinical and quality standards set out within Trust guidelines, to participate in clinical governance working closely with other professionals to provide comprehensive care of older patients in and out of hospital. This will include liaison with general practice and community services with regard to management of patient with chronic conditionsDaily attendance of the ward multidisciplinary board round to review flow and discharge planningThe appointee will be expected to participate fully as a leader and member of the multi-disciplinary teamWork collaboratively with colleagues in the Trust to develop a service model in keeping with best practiceContinuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient careLeadership, development, and organization of the service(s) in their charge in line with the Trusts business plans. Liaison and communication with the Lead Clinician for Older Peoples Services, as well as the General Manager and Clinical Director as neededPerson SpecificationQualificationsEssentialFull GMC Registration with license to practiceEntry on the GMC Specialist Register (or eligibility for entry within 6 months of date of Advisory Appointments Committee) for either Geriatric Medicine or G(I)Medicine by CCT or CESREvidence of participation in research (peer reviewed publications etc.)Appropriate higher degree (e.g. MD, PhD or equivalent)Higher specialist training in Geriatrics and G(I)MedicineBroad experience in Geriatrics and G(I)MExperience in Acute Frailty ServicesAbility to organize and deliver a teaching programmeCurrent ALS certificateDetailed knowledge of Geriatrics and G(I)M and of the specialist skills required for this postKnowledge of multidisciplinary clinical audit and demonstrable commitment to improving quality of care to patientsUnderstanding of modern medical curricula and commitment to life-long learningAbility to work as part of a multidisciplinary teamExperience of supervising medical staffAbility to teach medical students and junior medical and nursing staff.Ability to manage staff and resources effectivelyAbility to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs nurses and other agenciesCreate a job alert and receive personalised job recommendations straight to your inbox.
