We are extending our services and invite applications for the position of Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist within a 110 bed local independent Forensic Mental Health Hospital located in Doncaster South Yorkshire. You would be joining a team of 4 experienced forensic consultants.This is a small and friendly service. We are not owned by foreign hedge funds or venture capitalists; rather we are locally owned with strong people and service values. We have no debt. We work in partnership with the NHS to develop a range of excellent facilities for our patients and staff. We are currently opening some new pathway services and wish to extend our psychiatrist team in the secure environment. You will have responsibility forpatient assessment diagnosis and the delivery of treatment plans (physical,mental, psychological, dietary and occupational etc). You will ensure the hospital works inaccordance with all legal and clinical guidelines. You will lead both governanceand people via the multi-disciplinary team.Main duties and ResponsibilitiesMedicalresponsibility for the inpatients receiving care at the hospital.The post holder will have overall responsibility forpatient treatment plans, whilst liaising with the Multi-Disciplinary Team.Towork with your speciality doctor, our GP service and other professionalsto ensure compliance against all guidelines and legal requirements.To performassessments on referrals, to oversee the effective and efficient admissionof new patients and the discharge of patients from our care.Thepost holder will have responsibility for the supervision of reports forMental Health Act Tribunals and Hospital Managers' hearings and would beexpected to attend hearings.Thepost holder will be responsible for the maintenance of satisfactorypatient records.To lead the implementation of risk assessment, riskmanagement and to embed clinical governance within the Hospital.Assess capacity of inpatients whenever appropriate.To act as Responsible Clinician for inpatientsdetained under the Mental Health Act at the hospital.To decide on the renewal of detention under the MentalHealth Act as appropriate.To review and meet the patient group for regular wardrounds and involve families are carers when appropriate to do so.To liaise with the Ministry of Justice for transfer ofpatients and approval of leave as required.To undertake clinical audits as part of the hospitalsgovernance processes.To partake in governance committee work and meetingson issues like drugs & therapeutics, clinical effectiveness, policiesor lessons learnt.In the rare event of immediate input being requiredthe post holder will also be available for out-of-hours consultations withthe on-call speciality doctor and hospital staff as appropriate.To participate in the daily hospital handoverbriefings (15 mins) and weekend conference call briefings (10 mins) whenyou are the on-call consultant.CommunicationToensure and maintain regular communications with the Medical Director andwhen appropriate with the Chief Nurse, Modern Matron or other senior managers.Tocommunicate effectively through regular contact with patients, relatives,staff, directors, and any other concerned bodies; maintaining appropriatereports.MarketingToactively market the hospital and promote a positive personal andprofessional profile within both the medical community and within our localcommunity.Promoteand ensure the good reputation of the hospital. To act as a positive rolemodel, maintaining and demonstrating a positive attitude towards patients,their families, visitors and other staff.Training and DevelopmentThe postholder will be expected to attend and contribute to the regular academicmeeting and lead on a chosen specialist medical topic or clinical area ofinterest.The postholder will be expected to adhere to the professional standards for CPD as setout by the GMC the Department of Health and the Royal College of Psychiatrists.Health and SafetyToreport immediately to the hospital manager any illness of an infectiousnature or accident incurred by a patient, colleague, self or other asrelevant to the health and safety of the facility in question.Tosupport the development of the process, practice and delivery of Active Care.Tounderstand and ensure the implementation of the Hospitals health andsafety policy and emergency and fire procedures.Tohave responsibility to manage risk to self and others in immediatevicinity and to take reasonable care of own safety and the safety ofothers who may be affected by the post holders acts or omissions.Toreport any faulty appliances, damaged furniture or equipment and anypotential hazard to the appropriate hospital manager.Tocomply with all health & safety policies and procedures.
