Applications are invited for suitably qualified Clinical Scientist in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics to join our committed and enthusiastic team in the department of Immunology and Immunogenetics at North Bristol NHS Trust as a Consultant Clinical Scientist. This is a newly created post and will be a key role within the Blood Sciences department of Severn pathology, located at Southmead hospital in Bristol. We are looking to recruit a motivated and dynamic individual with excellent leadership skills and the experience required to lead and develop the H& I service to continue supporting regional renal transplant teams. As part of Blood Sciences at North Bristol the Department of Immunology and Immunogenetics provides a comprehensive clinical diagnostic service to the North Bristol NHS Trust and local community, The department is committed to providing a high quality service for all its users and is a UKAS accredited medical laboratoryMain duties of the jobThe successful applicant will be expected to participate in all aspects of the H& I service including clinical leadership of the H& I service, clinical liaison, strategic management, service and business development, teaching and training and to support the on-going development of Blood Sciences and Severn Pathology. A broad range of experience in H& I will be essential along with a proven scientific and professional record, clear leadership skills and an ability to work well as part of a team. Consultant Clinical Scientist acting as an independent practitioner the post holder will: Be responsible for the leadership and management in provision and appropriate development of the H& I Service. To work as part of the Immunology and Immunogenetics team to provide a quality diagnostic laboratory service in accordance with Trust and Departmental policies and procedures. Be a key part of the senior management team working closely with the Head of Service (HoS) for Immunology and Blood Sciences Management Team to provide an integrated efficient and cost-effective Laboratory Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics and Blood Sciences Service to all Users. Act in a Consultant capacity with a high level of scientific knowledge and expertise to provide clinical advice for tests required and interpretation of results to Consultants and other healthcare professional staff. Provide ongoing strategic development of the H& I service in collaboration with clinicians, managers, and users of the service. Along with the HoS take responsibility for the management and training of all non-consultant Clinical Scientists within the department and contribute to the organisation, delivery and supervision of teaching and training of the scientific and technical staff of the laboratory and of other health care professionals as required.Person SpecificationEducation/Training/QualificationsEssential
Master's Degree (or equivalent ) in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics. FRCPath part 2(or intention to achieve within six months) State Registration as a Clinical Scientist in H& I with the Health and Care Professions Council.

Knowledge/Skills/AbilityEssential
In depth knowledge of the causes and mechanisms of disease and how laboratory results are affected by disease. Able to provide Leadership within the H& I Department, the Trust and beyond. Good interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, to communicate effectively with managerial, professional and clinical colleagues within and beyond the Trust.
