This newly created role will be part of Thames Water’s Strategic Resource Option (SRO) portfolio team which is responsible for the development of several projects that will improve resilience to drought and minimise interruptions to water supplies in the Southeast whilst protecting the environment.These exciting projects may include a new reservoir and transfer projects between different river catchments and are likely to be delivered by Development Consent Orders.What you’ll be doing as the Consents ManagerYou will support the shaping and implementation of our consenting strategy for the individual projects and the portfolio as a whole. Utilising experience in planning and consenting within other major programmes you will support in advising the leadership team on the course of action to be taken during the development phase, reducing risk to the consenting, construction, and operation phases.Working with the consent lead, you will help manage consenting risks through your day-to-day relationships with the project managers and project teams and provide strategic consenting advice to colleagues across Thames Water.Day to Day activities will include:Overseeing a risk register for the consenting process and ensuring such risks are controlled, mitigated, reported and reviewed.Undertaking engagement and negotiation with stakeholders during the application process seeking to reduce risks to the delivery of the projects, and guiding project teams to manage consent risk throughout the consenting process.Working with the supply chain to ensure all the appropriate activity required for the consent of a scheme has been undertaken to the standard and quality that reduces the consenting risks to the project.Playing a key role in the oversight of the preparation of any application documentation and during the examination phase.Working with the project and legal teams, ensure there is a robust audit trail of activities necessary to defend the projects during the formal scrutiny process.Establishment and management of the stakeholder relationship system.Supporting engagement with the Planning Inspectorate and being involved in the engagement with strategic stakeholders for example Local Authority planning officers.Understanding the sensitivities of working in communities that may be affected by a development project and seeking ways to communicate empathetically.Supporting the Consents lead in working with strategic stakeholders to shape infrastructure planning policy and practice for the water sector.What you should bring to the roleEducated to degree level or equivalent, and ideally with Chartership or Membership of a relevant industry body.Experience in developing or handling major contentious projects.Qualifications relevant to, and significant experience of the Development Consent Order process and Town and Country Planning process.Knowledge of national infrastructure and other relevant planning policy for major infrastructure projects.Ability to manage robust Risk Registers.Collaborative leadership skills to work through supply chains or professional teams.Excellent stakeholder trust-building and liaison experience and skills.Be a top-level communicator with negotiation skills to achieve positive outcomes for complex projects.Be comfortable and capable of multi-tasking in a challenging environment.What’s in it for you?Competitive salary from £65,000 to £85,000.Annual Leave 26 days holiday per year increasing to 30 with the length of service.
