Our client has an exciting opportunity for a Communications Shift Engineer to join their team in London to start as soon as possible. You will join them on a full time, permanent basis, and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of up to £45,000 per annum per annum + excellent benefits (travel allowance, bonus scheme, shift allowance).



Work Pattern: 12-hour shifts, 4 days on/4 days off, nights/days

In the UK their Docklands data centre campus facilitates the majority of the London Internet Exchange’s (LINX) capacity, meaning that they support a huge proportion of all UK internet traffic, making their Docklands campus a globally important internet hub.



The Communications Shift Engineer role overview



As a Communications Shift Engineer, you will take responsibility for ensuring, during shift hours, that customers’ Incidents\Events and/or Requests are processed in accordance with industry standards and brought to a successful resolution within agreed Service Levels at both London sites. You will provide a value-added service to customers.



Key tasks of their Communications Shift Engineer:




  • Receive and act on all customer Incidents\Events\Request notifications.

  • Incident Management – Prioritises and diagnoses, investigates incidents according to agreed procedures.

  • Incident Management – Facilitates recovery, following resolution of Incidents, documents and closes resolved.

  • Incidents, Events and/or Requests via agreed procedures.

  • Implementation of agreed IT Infrastructure changes and following maintenance routines.

  • Network Support – Uses Network Management tools where applicable to investigate and diagnose network. problems, collect performance statistics, and create reports.

  • Customer Service - Liaise with customers regarding fault correction progress and circuit installations.

  • Maintain customer equipment manuals, network drawings and circuit databases accurately and efficiently.

  • Install telecoms cabinets and cable installations in addition to installing and configuring customer equipment.

  • Responsible for security of FM areas.

  • Facilities Management – Monitor’s compliance against agreed processes and investigates, assesses, and resolves incidents of non-compliance, escalating where necessary.

  • Carries routine audit checks to ensure adherence to the policies and procedures.



Essential requirements they’re looking for in their Communications Shift Engineer:




  • Educated to Btec National Experience level (minimum) in telecoms (preferably), or IT.

  • Sound knowledge of wide area networking and all associated protocols to perform sectionalisation and testing.

  • Good understanding of Fibre and Copper interfaces.

  • Ability to conduct fault isolation and fault finding.

  • Ability to complete rack installations of routers, switches, firewalls, and servers.

  • Good understanding of Microsoft and Linux O/S and associated products.

  • Fibre Optic Testing & Safe Working Practices.

  • CompTIA A+ Certificate or Similar.
