Commissioning Editor (12 Month Parental Leave Contract)

We have a new opportunity to join a globally renowned publishing company as Commissioning Editor (Education) for a parental leave contract of 12 months. It also offers hybrid working with a requirement for 2 days per week to be spent in their central London office.

As Commissioning Editor for the education portfolio, working across a range of secondary, primary and early years materials, you will project manage and edit your own list of Education titles, using excellent hands-on editorial skills to create the best Education titles for teachers and parents. Responsibilities will include (amongst others):

  • Commission new products and manage backlist
  • Contribute to the strategic direction for the Education product portfolio
  • Maintain in-depth market knowledge and a strong network within the teaching community
  • Build strong and long-standing relationships with existing authors and create relationships with new authors
  • Project manage approximately 25 titles per year from acquisition through to publication
  • Selectively develop new project proposals
  • Work with authors, freelancers and colleagues to ensure the smooth running of all production schedules and processes

The ideal Commissioning Editor will have proven editorial skills gained in the educational publishing space with a track record in commissioning content, author management and contract negotiation. You will be commercially aware with excellent communication skills, as well as possess exceptional editorial standards.
