Reed Construction is delighted to be working for a growing specialist building services contractor. The company is experiencing significant growth and is now seeking a Head of Commercial to join the team. This new and varied role will be pivotal in managing
Bid Management, Procurement, Pricing, and Invoicing to maximise our profitability and competitiveness. The position will require a balance of office and site-based work, with our office located in Bristol. Day to Day of the role: Take charge of maintaining and improving Gross Profit (GP) for projects through cost control and negotiation of uplifts/extras. Conduct monthly site surveys with clients and Project Managers to secure/negotiate uplifts, including upgrading specifications and additional works. Manage the Quantity Surveyor (QS) and wider team, providing support and acting as an escalation point for commercial decisions. Engage in customer negotiation and contract interpretation, checks, and negotiation. Maintain positive cash flow throughout projects by assisting in credit control as needed. Report on Project GP weekly and Work in Progress (WIP) monthly. Negotiate and secure subcontractor prices and approve their payments. Create and send monthly valuations and invoices to clients. Oversee cost-analysis and estimating against an agreed Schedule of Rates. Procure all supply items and subcontractor packages, and price all contract variations. Oversee all bids, assist in writing and pricing, and coordinate with the bid team. Create partnerships with key suppliers to negotiate competitive rates and terms. Implement systems to mitigate errors in pricing and purchasing. Review pricing to ensure market competitiveness in conjunction with procurement exercises. Work with sales and operations to ensure prompt client payments and spend limits are achieved on every contract. Required Skills & Qualifications: Strong commercial awareness and management capabilities. A solid career in Quantity Surveying either with a Contractor or Subcontract, Building services experience would be a plus. Strong negotiation skills and assertiveness.
