Commercial Gas Engineer/ Combustion engineer

The role of the Combustion Service Engineer entails executing skilled tasks with proficiency and professionalism, ensuring timely and financially controlled delivery to meet planned maintenance schedules, reactive works, and other service level agreements (SLAs) as directed by the Client and Service provider. The Engineer must surpass the expectations of both Service provider and the Client, adhering to policies, procedures, and relevant health and safety regulations.



Responsibilities include submitting comprehensive written and electronic documentation, effectively communicating issues to both the Client and Service provider line management, acquiring and managing permits in line with THE Service provider Safe Systems of Work, and providing regular updates to supervisors and service managers.



Key responsibilities involve:

- Promptly responding to critical Heating and Hot water plant issues, including GAS PIPEWORK, even outside normal business hours if necessary.

- Competently enabling and resetting critical plant following power outages or service interruptions.

- Ensuring all company-issued tools are properly tested, certified, and logged.

- Certifying and maintaining specialist meters in compliance with legislation and technical requirements.

- Estimating time and materials for quotations, supporting Client Supervisors with necessary details.

- Assisting in local financial control of reactive and essential repairs.

- Monitoring spares and materials to ensure adherence to quoted timelines.

- Maintaining site logbooks and Gas Safe records.

- Coordinating reactive calls and service delivery for clients.

- Understanding and adhering to risk assessments, method statements, and Safe



Systems of Work.

- Monitoring and recording plant information, escalating issues as needed.

- Demonstrating knowledge and skill in HVAC/Gas equipment operation, maintenance, and repair.

- Supporting Client Supervisors in controlling job expenditures.

- Demonstrating proficiency in verbal and written communication.

- Applying engineering techniques to British standards or equivalent.

- Proposing innovations to improve engineering and technical performance and energy efficiencies.



Competencies include being a qualified Gas engineer with electrical competence, capable of working safely and independently in a technically advanced environment. The Engineer should excel in performing planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs, conducting gas testing and purging according to regulations, and understanding electrical circuit diagrams for fault finding. Strong knowledge of gas appliances, associated plant, and relevant qualifications and certifications are also required.
