Commercial Finance Manager

Salary: 60,000 - 65,000

Location: Manchester (hybrid)

Duration: 6 months fixed term contract

Sellick Partnership has been assigned to recruit a Lead Commercial Finance Manager on a 6 months fixed term contract for a very successful and instantly recognisable retail business based in Manchester.

The business has outperformed their competitors over the past few years and will continue to do so by driving their strategic plan, delivering further improvements and changes that will make a real impact on the whole business.

As a Lead Commercial Finance Manager you will join an ambitious commercial finance team and look to you to provide oversight and control for the central costs of the business, to make effective decisions that improve business outcomes and help set up for future success.

You will join the team that co-ordinates the group central costs budget and provides insight to the corporate support functions across the business. You will be responsible for looking after a particular area, which could include support centre, property, technology or transformational change.

If you have got the financial skills, along with experience of effectively leading a small team and partnering with senior business leaders, then there most likely will be the opportunity to go permanent.

Duties include:

  • Co-ordinate and own part of the group central costs budget, managing performance of the business, providing insight, and holding the business to account to deliver and achieve its financial targets
  • Manage the central costs rolling forecast cycle, making sure that performance outcomes are understood, and interventions are made where required
  • Co-ordinate and own the monthly/quarterly review of performance, making sure that optimisation initiatives are tracked, and delivery is understood
  • Develop insights reporting to enable business teams to better manage and understand their spend
  • Lead efforts to prioritise and align relevant projects with corporate strategic goals
  • Provide support to the exec (in your area) in relation to ad-hoc analysis and projects, preparing high-quality outputs
  • Help create a culture of development and a central costs team with strong commercial insight and a deep business analysis skillset - be responsible for peer-to-peer development and juniors in the team
  • Take ownership and help drive consistency into our processes and reporting

The successful applicant will be a qualified Accountant (ACA or ACCA or CIMA) who has strong experience in a similar role (costs, forecasting, budgeting, commercial insight), ideally within the retail, multisite, leisure or FMCG industry.

You will have evidence of building and managing meaningful relationships with lots of different stakeholders at all levels, as you will be challenging costs to drive value.

The role requires an ambitious and proactive individual who enjoys applying a strong commercial focus, with the ability to build robust and productive relationships, providing support and challenge across all functions and liaising with senior management.

You will need to be adept at "story-telling" and bringing financial information to life in a compelling way. Therefore, you will have excellent analytical skills, able to spot trends and understand data quickly - joining the dots between disparate pieces of information and applying broader business and market context to make sense of data.

If you consider yourself to be a committed, career driven professional who can demonstrate the above experience and who would welcome the stimulus of this commercial finance post then we would be pleased to hear from you.
