Distribution System Operation (DSO)
involves us delivering an increasingly smart and flexible energy system for our customers that delivers a greener grid, with maximum resilience at minimal overall cost.​
This is an exciting opportunity at a time of significant and fascinating change within the energy sector as we work towards delivering a smarter and greener grid. As a commercial manager you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the physical constraints and contractual arrangements at the transmission system interface are understood so that customers may be provided with information about the status of their current or future connection projects. ​
You will manage the suite of transmission access agreements, being the key point of contact with the Electricity System Operator (ESO) and provide timely and accurate information that enables colleagues to service customer needs and ensure the least cost and quickest connection of their projects to the distribution system while meeting transmission system contractual requirements. ​

Key Responsibilities


The successful candidate will: ​
Maintain a key source of managed information on the limits to and use of the main transmission interfaces to our distribution system. ​
Provide timely and accurate information on the transmission system access arrangements and to colleagues involved in managing customer connections to the distribution system.​
Contract management of transmission contract (CUSC) bilateral agreements and relationship manager with Electricity System Operator counterparty.​
Manage flow of information for internal and external stakeholders and lead on clarity of reporting that provides visibility of headroom/congestion and customer project milestones.​
Lead on related industry change projects and internal Northern Powergrid implementation to embed new practices with colleagues.​

Strong leadership skills, with the ability to secure and manage cross-business buy-in and resources to deliver projects.​
Strong written and spoken communication skills – clear, concise, engaging and persuasive – ability to produce high quality consultation responses and other written documents.​
Qualifications and Attributes

Essential Qualifications and Experience​
Qualified to degree level and / or proven job-related experience.​
Commercial role experience in the energy industry delivering industry change. ​
Project Management - converting high level policy and direction into realistic internal deliverables and action plans.​
Engaging with external parties to influence market developments and deliver projects.​
An appreciation of ongoing major connections industry changes and market developments. ​
Office IT skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.​

Desirable Qualifications and Experience ​
Technical degree (e.g. Economics, Mathematics, Distribution engineering etc.).​
Project management qualification.​
Knowledge and experience of the electricity distribution sector​
Leadership of initiatives across an organisation.​
