We have an incredible opportunity to join us here at Phoenix Group as a Commercial Analyst within the Retirement Solutions Commercial Function of our thriving Open division.

The role
The purpose of the Retirement Solutions Commercial Function is to support the Open division in achieving its financial targets. The team achieves this by deploying a range of portfolio optimisation techniques to improve the steering of the existing annuity and equity release portfolio and supporting the bulk purchase annuity (BPA) underwriting capability. You will deliver capital management actions and support enhancements to the group’s analytical capabilities. This promises a high-profile and cross-disciplinary role with extensive access to senior stakeholders within the organisation.
Your primary focus will be working on initiatives to improve shareholder value, including working on strategic projects associated with the BPA business and developing solutions to manage balance sheet impacts and reported metrics.
You will work in a range of areas including:
Liability side: reviewing and challenging the valuation approach and methodology of BPA business to find sources of competitive edge
Asset side:
exploring opportunities to optimise the Matching Adjustment contribution and risk-based capital requirements within the context of the Solvency II regulatory framework
Capital: reviewing, challenging and optimising existing practices and structures
Balance sheet analysis: developing a detailed knowledge of the value drivers within our BPA and mortgages businesses, building complex models and undertaking analysis to enhance our understanding of current and expected financial results
.You will:
Develop a detailed understanding of the value drivers within our annuities and mortgages business.
Provide input to define and shape complex models and analysis to support the roll-out and monitoring of balance sheet optimisation initiatives, management actions, assumptions changes and modelling improvements.
Performing analysis to support the delivery of commercial initiatives, from initial feasibility through to implementation.
Support initiatives to improve data, reporting, and analytics for our Retirement Solutions business.
Build tools to enhance the frequency, granularity and quality of the management information that Retirement Solutions’ uses to monitor and manage its risks, as well as to identify capital generation opportunities.
Champion an environment of continuous improvement and the adoption of technology to solve business problems.
Develop and provide technical expertise in key areas across assets and liabilities.
Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders

A commercially minded individual with excellent analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to come up with creative solutions.
Significant experience in financial and business modelling as demonstrated through education, qualifications and/or experience.
Good systems experience and moreover a passion for the application of technology to solve business problems.
Experience with programming languages and database software are desirable but not necessary [VBA, R, Python, SQL, Power BI].
A track record of solving complex problems and a natural determination to persevere where the answer may not be obvious.
Great attention to detail and can understand a situation by breaking it down and tracing the root cause and underlying implications in a methodical step-by-step way.
An ability to work across a broad range of disciplines and stakeholders.
The capability to work proactively and independently in resolving issues.
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Self-awareness, with the desire to exceed expectations and demonstrate resilience in overcoming challenges and determination to deliver results for the business.
It would be desirable to have an appreciation of financial services companies, their balance sheets and the regulatory environment in which they operate, including Solvency II and the Matching Adjustment.
