Co-Lead Psychologist for HIV and Sexual Health

We are looking to recruit an experienced Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to co-lead the HIV and Sexual Health Psychology service. This person will share the position of Lead Psychologist for a well-established and respected HIV and Sexual Health team that provides specialist psychological services to patients and staff of Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex Hospital. The team sits within a diverse and supportive Clinical Health Psychology service. The postholder will provide specialist clinical input, supervision, management and leadership to psychologists and non-psychology colleagues across the sexual health teams. The post also includes responsibility for overseeing current service developments and maintaining contact with the associated HIV and Sexual Health multi-disciplinary teams. Doctoral level training in clinical psychology or Doctoral level training in counselling psychology (or equivalent - masters level plus post qualification training and chartered status), including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS. HCPC registration.
Desirable
Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice.
EXPERIENCEEssential
Assessed experience of working as a qualified clinical/counselling psychologist for a significant period and extensive experience at a highly specialist level. Significant experience of working in a HIV/Sexual Health psychology setting or Clinical Health Psychology setting. Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient and residential care settings severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care coordinator and also within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan Extensive experience of teaching and training psychology and non-psychology staff. Extensive experience of providing professional and clinical supervision to psychology and non-psychology staff. Experience of providing group supervision / reflective practice and/or consultation to medical MDT's. Extensive experience of working with and managing complex clinical presentations and risk. Experience of managing referrals into a service, communication with referrers and waiting lists

Experience of assessing and treating clients across the full range of care settings Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts. Experience of staff recruitment and selection.
Skills and knowledgeEssential
Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration. Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS. Knowledge of relevant issues and guidelines in HIV & Sexual Health. Skills in providing consultation and reflective practice to other professional and nonprofessional groups Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of clinical health psychology Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health. Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS. Formal training in supervision of other psychologists
Desirable
Well-developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialized psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups (e.g. personality disorder, dual diagnoses, people with additional disabilities etc) Experience of leading specific projects within a clinical service Experience of providing day to day management and support to junior psychologists. Knowledge of the theory and practice of highly specialized psychological therapies and assessment methodologies
OtherEssential
Ability to identify provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations and severely challenging behaviours. Ability to identify, and employ, as appropriate, clinical governance mechanisms for the support and maintenance of clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour. Ability to develop and use complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings.
