We typically receive large volumes of data from our clients, which we process into a suitable format for further analysis. Some clients may request data to be stored in their own environment, but this is rare, and the data will mostly be cloud-based.There are two discrete roles, within our this opportunity - data engineering and data analysis. This role will firstly be for data engineering, but there may be scope for some data analysis work in the future, as this role matures. About the RoleWe are seeking a highly-skilled and experienced Cloud Data Engineering Manager to manage our data engineering team in designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable cloud-based data solutions, tailored to meet our clients’ needs and requirements. We are specifically looking for expertise in AWS and GCP.This is a multifaceted role, leveraging technical expertise, analytical skills, and communication abilities to deliver effective and efficient solutions that address clients' business challenges and drive value.The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cloud technologies, data engineering, and team leadership, with a passion for driving excellence in data-driven decision-making. Although this is a managerial role, we also want to note that, as a small company, every role has an hands-on, individual contributor element to it. As this role reports to our CTO, Simon, our ideal candidate would have experience working with senior management. expertise/leadership,
fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.Set team priorities, tasks, and timelines, in collaboration with the Project Manager and other members of the project delivery team.Respond to status requests and/or escalations for tickets.Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize data engineering processes and enhance team productivity.Conduct regular performance reviews, providing constructive feedback, recognizing achievements, and identifying opportunities for growth.Stay current with emerging trends and technologies, evaluating their potential impact on our infrastructure.Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, data analysts, and software engineers, to understand data requirements and deliver robust solutions.Implement and enforce data governance policies to maintain data integrity and reliability.Own, develop, and maintain the data warehouse and all data pipelines, alongside the CTO.Design and architect scalable, reliable, commercially effective, and high-performance data platforms on cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP).Help design and implement our data engineering strategy, build roadmaps, and oversee effective delivery of the roadmap, in collaboration with our CTO, and other members of the leadership team.Develop and document relevant
workflows/procedures. Ensure the reliability, availability, and performance of our cloud tech stack, through proactive monitoring and optimization.Act as a subject matter expert, providing guidance and support to internal teams and clients on cloud-related matters.Client Collaboration (Solutions Architect):Work closely with clients to understand their business objectives and data requirements, and translate them into technical solutions.Provide expert guidance and recommendations to clients on data engineering strategies, architectures, and technologies.Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, building strong relationships based on trust, transparency, and value delivery.Communicate complex technical concepts to (at times) non-technical stakeholders, fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making.About YouYou will be excited to play a pivotal role in leading our cloud engineering efforts, driving strategic initiatives, and ensuring the successful delivery of cutting-edge cloud solutions to our clients.Required Experience:Demonstrable experience (2-3+ years) in managing/leading data engineering teams, focused on cloud-based solutions, providing guidance, mentorship, and fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.Expertise in the following cloud platforms: AWS and GCP, and proficiency in cloud-native data services (e.g., S3, Athena, Lambda, Glue).Advanced working knowledge in programming languages - specifically Python.Hands-on experience in data pipeline development using tools such as AWS Glue.Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to all stakeholders (non-technical and technical).Experience working closely with clients to understand their business objectives, challenges, and data-related requirements in order to deliver value-add solutions.You’ve worked closely with a product manager/owner on story development and breakdown into technical tasks ready for sprint planning. DevOps and continuous delivery experience (automation, monitoring, logging, auditing) Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.Nice to haves:Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.Domain knowledge of common information security management frameworks and regulatory requirements and applicable standards such as ISO 27001.Experience of using modern data warehouse platforms such as Snowflake, Iceberg.Certifications in cloud platforms and/or data engineering (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Professional Data Engineer) are a plus.Experience working with Agile methodologies.You must have the right to work in the UK without requiring sponsorship, as we’re unable to provide visa sponsorship at this time. Company Benefits 28 days of annual leave (incl. The purpose of this screening call is to assess whether you meet the basic qualifications and requirements for the position, before progressing to a formal interview. First-Round Interview: A 1-hour video call (Google Meet) with the hiring manager and the People Manager. During this interview, we will discuss your background and experience in more detail, and provide further information about the role and team.Technical Interview: For this role, as it is a technical role, candidates will undergo a 1-hour technical interview, focused on assessing their technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and knowledge relevant to the position.Onsite Team Interview: As we’re a small team, it is important for us to find the right fit.
