Clinical Lead Optometrist - Cataract service

To manage and provide professional clinical leadership for the Optometrists working in advanced clinical roles in Pre and Post operative Cataract Services. This will involve working alongside a multidisciplinary team of Ophthalmologists, Orthoptists, Nurses and technicians to ensure an excellent Cataract service is provided and that the local patient access targets are achieved by addressing the changing needs of the Directorate and other outside agencies. Responsibility of producing and maintaining clinical protocols, organising teaching and carrying out audits are part of job role. **Please be advised that interviews for this post are scheduled for 14th June 2024**Main duties of the job To work as an autonomous independent practitioner managing patient caseloads presenting in the relevant sub-speciality clinics involved in advanced optometric extended roles which result in decisions being made on treatment (i.e., prescribing of eye related medication, listing for cataract surgery), discharge or subsequent referral to sub specialty Consultant clinics. These include Eye Casualty/Triage, Corneal and Medical Retina clinics etc. Working across Rugby and UHCW site. Saturday working in eye casualty triage as required. To work as an autonomous independent practitioner managing patient caseloads presenting in Core optometric services. This includes refraction (routine, diagnostic and paediatric) theatre refractions, specialist medical contact lens management (keratoconus, post-graft, high myopia/hyperopia, cosmetic, diagnostic), visual impairment rehabilitation, in-house spectacle dispensing. To work closely with the Principal and Lead Optometrists, to deliver a comprehensive range of Core Optometric services and advanced extended role clinics, to the highest standard of quality and care. To work with the Principal and Lead Optometrists to ensure best practice, and the provision of highest quality hospital optometry service. To be responsible for managing verbal complaints/issues and report to the Principal Optometrist when necessary. Further to this, to be able to assist and supply accurate information to Principal Optometrist with regards to complex departmental complaints/issues. To take joint responsibility with Senior/Lead Optometrists for dispenses on the premises in absence of the resident Dispensing Optician. To work closely with the Principal Optometrist to ensure professional standards are achieved and always maintained, for the provision of highest quality hospital optometry services. To contribute to operational planning for the Department. This may involve dealing with some complex, sensitive, and contentious information. The post holder will be expected to provide advice, instruction, or training to groups where the subject matter is generally straightforward. To contribute to delivering income generation and cost improvement programs. To maintain harmonious working relationships and efficient communication with all staff throughout the Directorate, Trust, and outside agencies.
