An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the expanding medical psychology team for a role in the Neurospychology and/or Paediatric arms of the service. The paediatric team provide psychological input to a number of MDTs within paediatric services and the women and children's services, which provides the opportunity to gain experience in a number of different pathways. These include:
Paediatric diabetes
Cystic Fibrosis
Paediatric pain
Paediatric neuropsychology
Under 5 autism
Maternal mental health
Neonatal services This Neuropsychology team work across different services areas as required, which may include:
General neuropsychology
Neuro-oncology
Stroke
Neurorehabilitation
Functional neurological conditions We actively encourage trainee psychologists to apply. Successful candidates would be appointed at band 7 with a progression plan in place to support the post holder's development to the full competencies of the 8a role. If appointed to a role in neuropsychology the post holder will be supported to pursue the post-qualification training route in clinical neuropsychology with a view toultimately meeting the requirements for the Specialist Register in Clinical Neuropsychology (again, CPD and clinical supervision will be provided as required)Main duties of the jobThe post holder will be joining an experienced and supportive team lead by the Consultant Neuropsychologists, Consultant Psychologist and Senior Psychologist. Applicants do not have to have worked in an acute paediatric psychology service or in neurosciences previously, but will have demonstrated an interest in working with children and young people and/or in neuropsychological practice. The role will be based within South Tees NHS Foundation Trust and the appointee will be part of the Medical Psychology Service. It may be possible to enhance these hours with time into other clinical pathways and this can be discussed as part of the recruitment process.About usMedical Psychology The Medical Psychology service is made up of Clinical Psychologists, Counselling Psychologists, Health Psychologists, Psychological Therapists and Counsellors. We deliver psychological assessment, intervention and support to patients with a range of medical conditions across the lifespan. We utilise third wave therapies (especially Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Mindfulness) alongside CBT as the core therapeutic modalities, with training and supervision provided to support delivery of these approaches. We also carry out clinical audit, research and service evaluation. We have strong links with the Doctoral Training Programmes at the University of Teesside, and we provide teaching, placements and research projects for Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology and Health Psychology trainees. The Trust encourages innovation and service development, and we actively support this within the Medical Psychology service. All clinicians are expected to take on service development and service governance duties as part of their role, both within the Psychology service and within the wider MDTs in which we work. Post-graduate doctoral level training in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) or Counselling Psychology as accredited by the BPS & /or HCPC, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology. HCPC Registration as a Clinical Psychologist or Counselling Psychologist
Qualifications Psychological TherapistEssential
Completed post-graduate training as a High Intensity Therapist sufficient to meet the required knowledge, skills and attitudes at a level required for BABCP accreditation Current registration with the BABCP as a Psychological Therapist
Experience Clinical PsychologistEssential
Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, (including children and young people with health conditions) across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity. Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision
Desirable
Experience in one or more medical psychology settings.
Key SkillsEssential
Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups. Ability to demonstrate competencies in psychological approaches relevant to medical patients (e.g. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) to at least level 1
