Great British Nuclear (GBN) has been launched as part of the government’s Powering Up Britain Plan, it is an executive non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.
GBN will deliver the government’s long-term nuclear programme and support the government’s ambition to deliver up to 24GW of nuclear power in the UK by 2050.
To deliver this ambitious programme of works, GBN’s inaugural Chair, Simon Bowen, and Chief Executive, Gwen Parry-Jones OBE, are building a staffing team of equally experienced industry professionals and public servants and are currently seeking to appoint the organisation’s first Chief Finance Officer (CFO).
To meet the UK Government’s vision for a dynamic civil nuclear sector, GBN must create the conditions to attract and facilitate private financial investment into the development of nuclear technology and facilities.
The CFO will operate as GBN’s intelligent client, ensuring the CEO, Board and Executive Team understand, align with, and can articulate nuclear funding mechanisms to stakeholders. They will also oversee the implementation of funding strategy and models into processes and procedures, to enable the flow of capital into nuclear development companies and programmes.
GBN are interested in hearing from candidates with significant senior experience in financial management, such as a Chief Finance Officer or Finance Director, ideally within a FTSE 250 organisation or an organisation of similar scale and complexity. They will bring knowledge of financial modelling and/or creating novel approaches to raising capital, and a strategic mindset, experienced in developing long-term plans and operationalising finance strategy.
Given the senior nature of the role, it is also essential for the role holder to have the ability to engage effectively in high-level interactions and provide the right level of constructive challenge, advice and fresh thinking.
