Cranleigh STEM is working with a leading provider of hydrogen fuel cell power systems to generate clean energy in support of the global energy transition.

Our clients' scalable systems provide off-grid, zero-emission power already being deployed for rapid electric vehicle charging and replacing diesel generators for temporary power applications.

The Company has entered an exciting growth phase and is scaling up its operational capacity to meet demand for our zero-emission systems. We are seeking a Chief Engineer to help deliver the company's long-term success.

About the role

As the Chief Engineer you will ensure engineering oversight on all aspects of the liquid-cooled platform, establish, and maintain adherence to the development cycle for existing (liquid-cooled) products and new (liquid-cooled) development projects, and take responsibility for the quality and schedule of deliverables associated with the TRP004 development project.

The role gives an excellent opportunity for a motivated candidate to innovate, expand their engineering skills and personal development and become a recognised leader in this exciting and growing field.

Key Tasks:

  • Manage the technical progress of TRP004 through defined gates, including technical oversight, adherence to quality standards, documentation and approval, regular transparent communication with stakeholders, risk management.
  • Manage engineering changes on existing fleet/Gen AR2/Module AR3/Stack 63L, ensuring controlled and adequately documented design variants and overseeing the change process at engineering and manufacturing levels.

Responsibilities & Objectives:

  • Ensure the delivery of technical requirements of TRP004 PIF to schedule and quality, including the development of a third revision of the liquid-cooled generator with reduced size and weight, cost reduction based on a 500-generator production run, development of the technical document file for certification, and building and delivering one prototype unit for field testing under RDR grant.
  • Foster a goal-oriented positive collaboration mindset in project teams through the management of interfacing and transparent deliverable scheduling.
  • Ensure transparent communication with procurement and project management to adequately mitigate risks associated with the supply chain and staffing through biweekly (more frequently as required) logistics meetings with PM/Procurement.


Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in a relevant engineering role.
  • Technical engineering management experience to ISO9001 standards.
  • Proven ability to delegate and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Clear and concise communication skills.
  • Effective stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong technical background in engineering, particularly in hydrogen fuel cell power systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and problem-solve in the field.
  • Proficient in maintaining and developing technical documentation.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining project schedules.
  • Ability to foster a positive collaboration mindset in project teams.
  • Experience in transparent communication with procurement to mitigate risks associated with the supply chain.
  • Ability to adapt to the dynamic needs of a growing company.
  • Experience in developing technical documentation for certification processes.
  • Experience in building and delivering prototype units for field testing.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve cost reduction goals based on production run targets.
  • Familiarity with managing projects under grant funding, such as RDR grants.

This Chief Engineer role requires a candidate with extensive experience, strong leadership and communication skills, technical expertise ideally in hydrogen fuel cell power systems, and the ability to manage projects through various stages, ensuring quality, schedule, and cost objectives are met.
