Chef/Kitchen Manager



Age UK Hammersmith and Fulham is an independent local charity supporting older people across the borough. We provide a wide range of practical services and activities that promote wellbeing and independence to help make the lives of older people fulfilling and an enjoyable experience.



Our lunches take place Monday to Friday at 1pm at our Centre in Greyhound Road. Lunches comprise 2 courses and the meal of the day changes daily.



Purpose of Job: You will be responsible for planning, preparing, ordering, and cooking lunches catering for up to 25 plus people per day. You will be responsible for Food Hygiene & health and safety (in relation to the kitchen) regulations. You will be responsible for managing a team of kitchen volunteers. You will be managing the kitchen and all associated responsibilities that go with it. Additionally, there will be occasional internal and external events to cater for



Chef/Kitchen Manager Duties:




  • Prepare and cook meals and refreshments for Centre clients and ad hoc Age UK Hammersmith and Fulham events.

  • To ensure the kitchen area, food and equipment is maintained in a clean and tidy manner that meets the current legislated Food Hygiene standards.

  • Plan menus and order supplies.

  • Organise serving of food/refreshments and ensure that it is done on time.

  • Wash and clear away the dishes after serving and ensure the kitchen is left clean and tidy.

  • Ensure all cleaning materials are stored correctly in line with COSHH regulations.

  • To monitor and record possible allergens in food served.

  • To manage kitchen volunteers: organise rotas, have quarterly support and supervision sessions and address performance issues.

  • The Post holder may be asked to cover appropriate duties as reasonably required by the Service Co-ordinator.

  • The post holder will be expected to adhere to all Age UK Hammersmith & Fulham policies and procedures in all aspects of their work.

  • The post holder will be expected to participate in supervision, appraisals, and training.

CRITERIA ESSENTIAL or DESIRABLE



KNOWLEDGE



1. Knowledge of providing a healthy balanced menu appropriate to clients’ needs. E



2. To have completed the Food Hygiene Certificate Level 3. E



3. Demonstrate good communication skills. E



4. An understanding of the needs and concerns of older people. D



SKILLS & ABILITIES



5. Able to work collaboratively as part of a team. E



6. Empathy for working with older people. E



7. Ability to work alone and prioritise workload. E



EXPERIENCE



8. Experience as a Cook. E



9. Experience of working with older people. D



10. Experience of working to food hygiene regulations. E



11. Experience of using catering equipment. E



12. Experience of managing staff/volunteers. E



ADDITIONAL



14. Must occasionally be able to work outside of usual working hours, for example, to help cover special events.
