Cat D / PSV Driver | London, E10 | This post is 40 hours per week, not a standard full-time post | Early 08:00-18:00 | Late: 14.00 - Midnight | Weekend cover on a rota system | £14 per hour

Community Transport Waltham Forest is a busy transport charity providing passenger transport support to a wide variety of organisations across East London as well as delivering transport services on behalf of public bodies.

Due to the wide variety of services, we support, no day is the same.

We have formed a working partnership to deliver Dial-a-Ride services on behalf of Transport for London covering Waltham Forest, Newham, Tower Hamlets and The City. Dial-a-Ride helps people who are not able to use mainstream transport to get around the Capital.

The service has nearly 50,000 members who make 1.3m journeys a year.

Shift times:

Early: 8am – 4pm (flexible)

Late: 4pm – 12am

Drivers are on a rota with shift adjustments every 6 weeks

Are you the right person for us?


  • D1/PSV licence is essential with no more than 3 points
  • Passenger transport experience is desirable
  • A knowledge of East London is desirable
  • Proficient in spoken and written English
  • Be self-motivated and have patience, tact and flexibility
  • Excellent time keeping skills
  • Be able to demonstrate flexibility to be able to do various work shifts and areas, including at short notice

What will your role look like?


  • Drive to safe and professional standards (D1/PCV standards)
  • Ensure the schedule and time of journeys are followed; maintain accurate journey records for the purposes of monitoring and improving scheduling, including comments and complaints from passengers
  • Using accessible vehicles equipped with a ramp or tail lift, pick up passengers to/from designated collection points in accordance with the shift schedule in a courteous and safe manner.
  • Ensure passengers are correctly secured on the vehicle with a seatbelt or with the use of various specialist wheelchair-securing mechanisms
  • At the start and finish of duty, undertake vehicle checks in accordance with legal and company requirements, report/deal with defects according to company procedures
  • Ensure that all necessary equipment for a day’s duty is present on the vehicle
  • immediately liaise with the Depot and/or Management Control Centre (MCC) for Dial A Ride in the event of an accident/incident
  • Assist passengers on a door-to-door basis
  • To push and pull passengers in wheelchairs of various sizes (average weight 123 kilos)
  • Carry out Dynamic risk assessments; including passengers, location and adverse weather conditions
  • Comply with company policies and procedures including commitment and application of the Company’s Equal Opportunities Policy, Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • All other duties commensurate with Dial-a-Ride Driver
