Careers, Advice and Guidance Lead

Bournemouth

Full-time OR Part-time

Our client's purpose is to provide outstanding education and improve the life chances of all children and young people within their Trust. They provide an outstanding education across all sectors - primary, secondary and special. It ensures their pupils and young people are given a broad and balanced education which prepares them well for success in their future lives. They provide strong challenge and support to their Academies and ensure they deliver success for all.

They are now seeking a Careers Lead to provide oversight for their programme of careers education, information advice and guidance for the Secondary Academies (based in Bournemouth, BH10 and BH7).

They require an ambitious, flexible and committed person to further develop their careers programme, engaging with the local community, to promote varied and aspirational opportunities for the young people they support. The Careers Lead will work with staff and pupils across all key stages across the 2 sites, including their Post-16 provision.

You will be highly organised to work effectively across the sites, ensuring both academies are meeting all objectives set out by the Gatsby Benchmarks. As an inspiring leader, you will support the growth and professional development of the careers team you manage through consistent modelling and regular mentoring sessions as a minimum. Currently there are 2 Careers Support Staff, though there is opportunity for the careers team to grow across the Trust in the future.

The ideal candidate for this role would have experience in delivering Careers provision within a school context. However, they would welcome applications from candidates who are passionate about this area of work and who they could invest in to ensure they had the right training to thrive.

Key attributes they are looking for:

  • Passionate about career provision and the role this plays in outstanding education;
  • Experience in working effectively with outside agencies, or building relationships with the wider community, in a secondary school;
  • Flexible in understanding the implications of a changing education landscape for career guidance and committed to your own professional development and remaining up to date in current trends and drivers of change in post school pathways;
  • Encouraging and patient in supporting young people to overcome barriers and be aspirational about their future - helping them understand the next steps involved in transitioning into further education or employment.
  • A Level 6 qualified careers professional, or someone with demonstrable experience of teaching/coaching young people with a willingness to undertake the training.

Should you believe you have the relevant skills, experience and passion for the role but do not hold the Level 6 Careers qualification, they are able to support this both in funding the course and giving scheduled time within your working hours to undertake the learning.
