Acute Cardiac Unit (ACU) is a thriving busy acute Cardiology unit consisting of 20 beds and caring for those patient's in their acute phase of their cardiac illness. We care for a variety of patients with Cardiac conditions and take patients from a variety of sources: home, ED, tertiary centres, Gp, clinics and emergency Cardiology patients from various settings. We care for patients requiring up to level 2 cardiology cares and take those requiring emergency or urgent admission. We take emergency STEMI patient via our direct PPCI pathway and have also extended our service to emergency Bradycardia pathway patients.Main duties of the jobIn addition to the below summary you need to familiarise yourself with full Job Description and Person Specification documents attached to this advert. We provide a 24 hour primary percutaneous intervention service for those patients' having a STEMI and also have developed a new Bradycardia pathway for those patients' requiring urgent/emergency pacing from the community. As we are a tertiary centre we also take those patients who require specialised intervention from other local hospitals. ACU is a Cardiology admission unit whilst also caring for the level 2 acutely unwell patient's providing a good insight into the whole of all Cardiology conditions and treatments.

We adhere to the trusts set 6 values and behaviours which can be found on the intranet.Job descriptionJob responsibilitiesAs a band 5 nurse you will be directly caring and responsible for a patient case load for that day. You will receive new direct admissions from a variety of sources and assess the patient fully using our admission assessments and risk assessments set by the trust. On a day to day basis you may care for level 2 Cardiology patients, these will vary and may have IABP, LVAD, TPW, PPCI, Inotropes, Cardiogenic shock, pst arrest patients and ITU stepdown.....and more. You will be supported by a band 6 on each shift and will be encouraged to complete the packages specified and any competencies required.
