I have partnered with a leading Aviation business in finding them a Carbon Strategy Manager to gather data conduct various research and analysis on all sources of the business's emissions, given an up-to-date, real time picture of where they are in comparison to the Net Zero goal they have.Role PurposeThis is an important technical leadership role for the company and a key member of the carbon strategy team which shapes the approach on a key strategic issue for the business. The role is for a lead technical expert on carbon and air quality data and modelling, including all sources of the business's emissions (aircraft emissions, surface access, other emissions on the ground).The role works with the business to gather data on emissions, to agree the strategy to reduce emissions, and to deliver emissions management actions.The role also provides research and analysis to maintain an up-to-date picture of the impact of policy and market developments on our net zero plans and “brings the outside in” through horizon scanning of future risks and opportunities.Principal AccountabilitiesWork with the business and carbon programme to maintain accurate and up-to-date data on all the business's emissions, including delivering the annual carbon footprint.Develop and lead the business's Carbon Data Strategy, identifying requirements across the business and informing the delivery of appropriate solutions for accurate, timely data.Maintain and develop the business's carbon model, taking the latest ATM and pax forecasts and working with functional experts to translate into regular carbon forecasts for all elements of our footprint, setting a transition pathway and budgets for the business to followMaintain an up-to-date picture of Government, industry and third-party carbon forecasts (e.g. Climate Change Committee, IATA, ATAG, A4E, International Energy Agency, Clean Skies for Tomorrow, Energy Transitions Commission) to inform the business's model and understand key differences and risks.Job DescriptionWork with the carbon programme team, solutions and operations to translate the carbon strategy into operational delivery though targets, solutions and management processes. Specifically, act as business partner for airside operations and surface access [departments tbc]Undertake research and analysis to support our carbon strategy, including monitoring market and government policy developments and horizon-scanning future risks and trends. Specifically, identify available and emerging solutions from industry and academia to inform the business's Carbon Strategy – seeking continuous improvement and getting the most value and insights out of data.Air quality: ensure a robust monitoring strategy is in place for pollution across the airport and local communities; commission dispersion models as needed to understand patterns/trends in pollution;identify additional emissions reduction actions required for air pollution (in addition to those already in the net zero plan); engage with key local stakeholders to agree and deliver a joint air quality action plan.Qualifications and ExperienceTechnical and practical experience of monitoring and managing emissions affecting climate change and local air qualityGood knowledge and understanding of relevant technologies and legislationGraduate or post-graduate with relevant qualificationsExcellent communicator and influencer with experience of handling challenging debate in a public settingExperience of leading virtual teams, achieving results through others, and delivering business outcomes to time and budgetUnderstanding of the business's operation, strategy, and commercial and regulatory driversAn interest in/passion for a leadership role as a sustainable business using our scale and influence to decarbonise flight and improve local air quality
