Role Requirements
The Carbon & Net-zero Analyst is responsible for delivering services to customers that help them measure their carbon footprint and guide them along their Net-zero journey.
The role involves working closely with all team members and the customer. In some scenarios, the Carbon & Net-zero Analyst will be required to liaise with other relevant stakeholders responsible for supporting data collection or any other area relevant to our carbon services.
As this is a technical role, the Carbon & Net-zero Analyst must have strong analytical skills and be proficient in Microsoft Excel. They must also be adaptable to change, problem-solvers, and able to offer solutions where barriers and challenges are present.
Examples of typical activities include:
Calculating customer greenhouse gas emissions and creating carbon accounts
Acting as a subject matter expert for carbon accounting and net-zero roadmaps
Reviewing calculations carried out by other team members
Validating customer-supplied data on energy, travel, purchasing, shipping, waste, and product use
Presenting results to customers in a clear, concise way, that promotes action.
Developing net-zero roadmaps for customers that are underpinned by technical analysis of metrics used to track emission reduction targets
Lead and support third-party assurance of carbon results, and coordinate with third-party auditors to validate the accuracy and completeness of GHG Inventories and methodologies.
Support customers with submissions to the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi)
Providing data to the sustainability reporting team for inclusion in customer reports and reporting frameworks (such as SECR)
When needed, lead on all other ad hoc carbon and net-zero tasks which contribute to the customer's carbon journey
Sharing knowledge with other team members
Contributing to thought leadership and other marketing content development
Stay updated on relevant legislation for compliance and explore new improvement methods.
Getting involved in other sustainability activities for customers as required.
Develop, manage, and monitor TBLs emissions factor database. Responsible for reviews, updates and research contributing to the growing development of our carbon resources.
Skills and Competencies
The Carbon & Net-zero Analyst should have the following skills and competencies:
Good knowledge of the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol for Corporate Accounting including scopes 1, 2 and 3.
1+ years' experience applying knowledge of the GHG protocol to calculate company emissions.
Great at working with spreadsheets
Confident working with new technologies
Highly analytical and adept at working with data
Experience using online tools for analysis is desirable (such as Power BI)
Excellent customer communication skills
A structured and organised approach to their work
Ability to work unsupervised
Proactive and adaptable
A personal passion for the concept of sustainable business
Location, Working Hours, and Benefits
The role can either be based from our office at Lancaster University, from home, or a combination of both.
We operate a 4-day working week, where employees receive a full-time salary but only work for 4 days. The working hours are 08:30-17:30 Monday-Thursday, however, working patterns are flexible.
Benefits of this role include:
£36,000 - £40,000 annual salary.
