My client based in Stoke-on-Trent manufactures electrical insulators, associated hardware and disconnectors for the Electricity transmission distribution and rail industries. Many of our products are used on today's overhead infrastructure within the UK and overseas. We have an opportunity for CAD Technician to join the team here in the UK who will be responsible for the preparation and amendment of the 2D drawings that are used in the factory, manufacturing or supplied for the customer. Furthermore, we are looking to develop more 3D modelling of components and assemblies to help visualise our products in a better form. Additionally we are also looking for a candidate to input into the design process and have an initiative for optimising designs or realising the potential of other solutions and technologies.



Whilst the role is predominantly office based there is opportunity for a varied role liaising and working with the factory, dealing with customers and also visiting suppliers from time to time. This description reflects the core activities of the role but is not intended to be all-inclusive and other duties within the group/department may be required in addition to changes in the emphasis of duties as required from time to time. There is a requirement for the post holder to recognise this and adopt a flexible approach to work



Duties and responsibilities




  • Produce accurate 2D drawings, 3D models and amend existing drawings.

  • Manage the drawing register and the control of approved drawings.

  • Interface with key suppliers/manufacturing

  • Provide drawing support to the sales team

  • Contribute to the design development process

  • Review drawings for compliance with company/technical standards.

  • Articulate customer requirements or specifications into drawings.



Skills and experience




  • Good working knowledge of any CAD Package ideally Solidworks/Draftsight

  • Experience in a similar role is desirable

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office 2010 or higher

  • Good knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical Engineering terminology

  • Able to demonstrate the ability to undertake above responsibilities

  • Able to meet tight deadlines and able to work alone or with a team

  • Excellent communications skills both written and verbal

  • Self-motivated and able to take responsibility

  • Able to demonstrate initiative and a proactive approach to daily task

  • Flexible attitude
