Buyer (Food, Ingredients, Raw Materials, Packaging)

A food manufacturing business requires a Buyer. Applicants need previous ingredients or raw materials purchasing experience within a food, pharmaceutical or similar sector. The Buyer will be responsible for operational and strategic procurement.

The Buyer will join a small procurement team, reporting to a Procurement Manager with responsibility for ingredient, raw materials and packaging sourcing activities. Alongside both operational and strategic procurement tasks, the Buyer will also have duties across materials planning and will assist the Procurement Manager in developing the function.

Specific duties of the Buyer include:

• Management of PO process for direct materials, indirects and packaging
• Negotiate and manage contractual agreements with suppliers
• Optimise inventory/materials levels
• Forecasting, replenishing and ABC Inventory activities
• Post-signature supplier relationship management and development activities
• Contribute to change and process improvement initiatives in collaboration with the Procurement Manager

Buyer applicants should meet the following criteria:

• Buyer, Purchasing, Procurement, Supply Chain or Materials Planning experience
• Previous experience of the Food industry would be advantageous, but other industries involving procurement of ingredients and raw materials can be considered
• Comfortable in a procurement role that has strategic and operational elements
• Knowledge of LEAN inventory management techniques
• Collaborative, honest and open in character
