As a Building Surveyor at, you will play a crucial role in overseeing roofing projects within the social housing sector. Your responsibilities will include both planned and reactive maintenance, ensuring the safety, quality, and compliance of roofing systems across various properties. You'll collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and external stakeholders to deliver successful roofing solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Roofing Inspections and Assessments:
    • Conduct thorough inspections of social housing properties to assess roofing conditions.
    • Identify defects, deterioration, and potential hazards related to roofing systems.
    • Prepare detailed reports outlining findings and recommended actions.
  2. Planned Maintenance:
    • Collaborate with project managers and maintenance teams to plan roofing works.
    • Develop maintenance schedules for roofing repairs, replacements, and upgrades.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  3. Reactive Maintenance:
    • Respond promptly to roofing issues reported by tenants or property managers.
    • Prioritise urgent repairs and coordinate necessary resources.
    • Monitor the progress of reactive maintenance tasks.
  4. Specifications and Procurement:
    • Prepare accurate specifications for roofing projects, including materials, methods, and cost estimates.
    • Liaise with suppliers and contractors to obtain competitive quotes.
    • Assist in procurement processes for roofing materials and services.
  5. Health and Safety:
    • Promote safe working practices during roofing projects.
    • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
    • Conduct risk assessments and implement necessary precautions.
  6. Stakeholder Communication:
    • Maintain effective communication with colleagues, clients, and tenants.
    • Attend meetings to discuss roofing projects, progress, and challenges.
    • Address any concerns raised by stakeholders.
  7. Quality Assurance:
    • Monitor the quality of roofing workmanship and materials.
    • Conduct post-project inspections to verify compliance with specifications.
    • Address any defects promptly.
  8. Documentation and Record Keeping:
    • Maintain accurate records of roofing assessments, repairs, and maintenance.
    • Update databases and files related to roofing projects.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree or Diploma: A degree or diploma in Building Surveying, Construction, or a related field.
  • Professional Membership: Membership with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or other relevant professional bodies.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years' experience in building surveying, with a focus on roofing projects. (Preferred)
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with social housing regulations, construction standards, and health and safety requirements. (Preferred)
  • Skills: Excellent communication, problem-solving, and project management skills.
