NXTGEN is currently recruiting for a dynamic Bookkeeper role on behalf of a prominent accountancy practice based in Peterborough. The firm has very ambitious growth plans and experienced great expansion across 2023, with that set to continue further this year. As such it's a great time for the Bookkeeper to be joining this firm. You will play a crucial role in managing day-to-day bookkeeping for a diverse, SME portfolio of clients, supporting them with a range of duties from invoicing processing to month end accounts preparation. You will also have the opportunity to support clients with cloud accounting queries, ensuring they have the knowledge in house to use the relevant accounting packages. With time, the Bookkeeper may also be expected to supervise junior members of the team, supporting them with their own development journey and learnings.

Key responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Balancing accounts, conducting reconciliations, reviewing client entries, and suggesting corrections or efficiency improvements.
  • Preparing and filing VAT returns for various VAT schemes, dealing with any HMRC queries as required
  • Processing sales and purchase invoices, receipts, and payments.
  • Provide training on cloud accounting packages to clients when required
  • Resolve client queries in a timely and efficient manner

The successful candidate will ideally hold an AAT or Bookkeeping qualification and will demonstrate previous experience gained within an Accountancy firms. Those candidates who are qualified by experience are also encouraged to apply. You will be confident working in a client facing capacity, working directly with clients on a regular basis. Strong cloud accounting software experience is highly desirable with Xero, Sage or Quickbooks advantageous.
