Founded in the late 1990’s Innovative Waste Kaikoura is a small, dynamic organisation that plays a critical role in Kaikoura’s community, service infrastructure and natural environment. Committed to a future where waste is sustainably managed and innovatively diverted from landfill.Innovative Waste Kaikoura is a Council Controlled Organisation that provides waste management and three waters services for Kaikōura District Council. TheKaikōura District Council are seeking people with a passion for infrastructure services, waste minimisation and the unique Kaikōura environment to govern; waste minimisation and management through provision of recycling services and resource recovery Environmental protection and enhancement Maintaining water and waste water infrastructureThe ideal applicant(s) will have:A sound understanding of governance, based on previous experience as a directorGood general business and planning skillsStrategic thinking and conceptual abilityNumeracy and logical thinking abilityObjectivity and independence of mindAn ability to bring innovative thinking and solutions to the tableThe board of directors is responsible for duties including: Meeting regularly to monitor and manage IWK’s governance and performanceEnsuring that appropriate reporting systems are in place and maintained to provide adequate and timely information to the BoardApproving the annual business plan, budget and capital expenditure, in accordance with IWK policyEnsuring that the Board has a formal schedule of matters and authorities referred to it for decision to ensure that the direction and management of IWK is in the hands of the BoardEncouraging fresh perspectives and views on the Board by involving new directors and ensuring that their views are given proper consideration and weightEnhancing the relationship with Council to maintain a platform of trust and community focusPresenting to Council balanced and understandable assessments/reports, as required, on the performance and position of IWK.Remuneration, insurance and meetings:IWK directors are unpaid. The Council supports the payments by IWK of directors’ liability insurance and the indemnification of directors.Each year there is a minimum of six scheduled meetings of the Board. The Board also meets as required between the scheduled meetings.
