Job Title: BMS Project Manager
Location: Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Yorkshire
Salary: £48,000-£55,000
Currently recruiting for a BMS Project engineer on behalf of my clients who are one of the leading Building Energy Management System (BEMS/BMS) companies within the United Kingdom.
My clients company is a family run business who have completed projects in all sectors across the UK and mainland Europe with a current annual turnover of £8million. They employ just under 40 staff and have offices in Liverpool, Leeds & London. We are looking to enhance our engineering department with a technically minded graduate.
The Role
As the Project Manager you will be responsible for managing BMS projects of varying sizes.
We work with a variety of customers including Mechanical and Electrical Contractors, Construction Contractors and End Users.
You will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, to specification and with a satisfied customer.
The main functions of the job will be as follows:
Design Responsibility
- Receive handover of sales pack from sales man
- Digest information, check specifications, check drawings against sales information
- Prepare description of operation / tech submittals
- Design of control panels
- Prepare O&M Manuals
Suppliers & Sub Contractors
- Procurement of panels, loose controls liaise with suppliers
- Engage sub contractors and prepare sub contract orders
- Correspondence with drawings, tech info.....
- Manage sub contractors and suppliers day to day
Customer/Clients
- Liaise with client/customer and provide progress reports
- Engage with the client and make face to face meeting on site to discuss the works
- Submit RFI/TQ's
- Provide lead times and durations for delivery of items, panels, install and commissioning
- Liaise with customers/clients emails/phone calls/face to face
Engineering
- Prepare I/O schedules for panel builder
- Ensure panel design is correct for the job
- Prepare graphics in line with job requirements
- Prepare software in line with description of operation
- Ensure project is commissioned and documentation is completed
Accounts
- Be aware of contract costs and margins and look to increase margin when procuring equipment and sub contract work
- Ensure invoicing is done on time to suit the job requirements, check payment schedules/client order
- Ensure suppliers/sub contractors are applying correctly against costs and completion of work/items supplied
- Be aware of contractors not paying and plan works accordingly to prevent company loss
Responsibilities
Duties will include but will not be limited to;
- Understand the scope of works from sales handover, work with the sales person to understand the specification and requirements of the client & project
- Ensure the financial performance of the project is in line with sales budgets
- Be responsible for the commercial performance of the project including preparation and submission of payment applications and variations
- Be the main point of contact for the client for all project related queries and maintain a good working relationship with them
- Ensure the project and associated documentation are completed in line with company policies & procedures
- Overall responsibility for health and safety management on your projects
- Monitor, review and report on the progress of all projects including progress, delays and resource allocation to the Operations Manager and support staff
- Liaise with Operations Manager, Commissioning Engineers and other staff as needed
- Procurement of all materials for the project
- Management of sub-contractors

Relevant Experience & Skills
- Experience of project management in the construction industry with experience in BMS and control systems.
- Experience in producing and managing a programme of works.
- Valid CSCS/ECS site card.
- Experience with different forms of contract and sub-contract or any contractual knowledge will be beneficial.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office (Excel & Word).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Good attitude and enjoy working as part of a team.
