The Bid Manager is a key role within the Naval Handling UK Global Sales Team, reporting to the Director Naval Sales. In this role you will collaborate closely with different areas of the business, including engineering and procurement, to ensure products are cost effective and profitable.The Bid Manager should have strong communication skills in order to be able to work with, and influence, key departments and stakeholders, including providing up to date costing and pricing information to the sales team. The role also involves the requirement to read drawings and technical documents and utilising computer software to calculate, prepare estimates and finalise bids.ResponsibilitiesPrepare and update cost schedules in accordance with Company Procedures and guidelines, with the objectives of maximum accuracy and minimum turnaround time.Play a key role in supporting the Align 2.0 process together with the Director Naval Sales and establish a strong communication network for bids between sales, engineering, procurement, and projects dept.Prepare OEM bids from start to finish and schedule activities to ensure the bid is ready to send to the sales manager/customer on time.Assist where needed on compiling bid documents in conjunction with Director Naval Sales.Chair Product Centre bid review meetings, document and schedule departmental actions and prioritise accordingly.Chair Product Centre bid approval meetings prior to finalising bid.Process costs for material and update and maintain up to date cost data for standard products as per standard Bills of Materials (BOM’s) working with the procurement team.Supply cost data support to engineering team members during exploration of concept and design alternatives to develop lower cost solutions.Support R&D initiatives working up cost reports for labour, material and manufacture & test.Supply cost data support for quality, guarantee, warranty and insurance claims.Standardise the estimating/bid management processes and document.Co-ordinate standard methods of handling all data types within the RAS team.Provide estimating information to Naval Handling UK team.Liaise with authorized auditing personnel as required.Undertake training to update or improve necessary skills required to improve the company’s methods and techniques of estimating.Other designated tasks as required.Qualifications and experienceDegree qualified with a track-record in managing sales campaigns with multiple customersExcellent negotiation skills with good understanding of contractual terms and conditionsKnowledge of the marine industry in particular naval marketsFamiliarity with product range and shipbuilding practicesA good engineering background with the ability to communicate at a technical level with internal and external customersProficient with Microsoft 365Evidence of right to work in the UKThis employment requires BPSS security pre-employment screening.Work locationGatesheadPoint of contactChris Nelson, Director of Naval SalesKongsberg Maritime is a technology pioneer, enabling a more sustainable future for our oceans.
