GSL are seeking a passionate and dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will work closely with our staff and students to promote positive behaviour management strategies, facilitate emotional support, and contribute to the creation of a safe and inclusive school environment.

In this role, you will work with a student 1:1 who is in a Behaviour Unit within their Primary School, you will work with other staff to enforce their EHCP and help the students engage with learning, learn behaviour management techniques and be a pillar of support in their daily lives. You will build rapport with the student, adapting learning materials and activities to ensure they can access the tasks and learn. This is a challenging but rewarding role, where you have the unique opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children with SEMH needs, who require additional support for their studies. 

Key Responsibilities:


  • As a Behaviour Support Assistant you will provide one-on-one support to students with behavioural difficulties, helping them to manage their emotions and develop appropriate coping strategies.
  • Assist in the implementation of behaviour management plans, working collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external support services.
  • As a Behaviour Support Assistant you will monitor student behaviour and intervene when necessary to de-escalate situations and prevent disruptions to learning.
  • Support the social and emotional development of students through structured activities and interventions.
  • As a Behaviour Support Assistant you will collaborate with colleagues to create a positive and supportive classroom atmosphere conducive to learning.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and behaviour incidents, ensuring confidentiality and sensitivity at all times.
  • As a Behaviour Support Assistant you will participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in behaviour management techniques.

Requirements:


  • Previous experience working with children or young people, particularly those with behavioural difficulties, is desirable. However, the right personality and attitude is the most important thing!
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience when dealing with challenging behaviour.
  • A proactive and solution-focused approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, as well as independently when required.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, psychology, social work, or a related field would be advantageous.
