To carry out the planned maintenance of the Hospital plant, systems and equipment in accordance with planned preventative maintenance and breakdown work system. To record work completed and time taken for each work docket on paper or on electronic devices (PDA).2. This is to include calorifier pumping sets, central heating systems including controls, plumbing systems, refrigeration equipment, automatic control systems, heating systems, air conditioning, building management systems and air handling plants.3. To diagnose and repair faults on the above plant and equipment in response to emergency calls. To assist engineers in carrying out fault diagnosis and subsequently to carry out repairs or modifications.4. To modify existing plant, equipment, controls and distribution systems. This to include, if necessary, testing of the system and completion of documentation.5. To install temporary installations when appropriate and safe to do so.6. To manufacture or modify equipment and parts as required.7. To undertake testing as part of any planned maintenance and following minor installations or modifications.8. To prepare or assist in the preparation of plant for statutory inspections.9. To repair and routinely test equipment that is under their remit.10. To work with apprentices and assistants.11. Ideally have a working knowledge of the current pressure systems legislation.12. To carry out basic servicing tasks in whichever field the post holder is not craft-qualified, commensurate with training and safety requirements.13. To undertake emergency release of trapped lift passengers as required (after suitable training).14. To use all relevant hand and power tools and equipment in a safe and proper manner and maintain equipment in a safe condition.15. To carry and respond to electronic communication system (portable Radios) in line with the policy and procedure for said system.16. To carry out system isolations to facilitate service shutdowns or other works as appropriate (i.e. water or steam services where applicably trained).17. To participate in the on-call rota and be prepared to cover others for sickness, leave or other absence.18. To be available to work overtime, sometimes at short notice (if available to do so, to meet the needs of the Trust, particularly for shutdowns and servicing of key clinical areas.19. To use and have an understanding of complex control systems (i.e. BMS, boiler controls, AHV controls) and carry out first line fault finding and diagnosis on them.20. To assist contractors in carrying out surveys and works as required, including assisting with access to areas (plant rooms, roofs, duct ways etc.) and works to plant.21. To ensure that all policies and procedures laid down by the Trust are strictly complied with.22. To carry out his/her duties in line with the Trusts Equal Opportunities Policy.23. To carry out works in all areas of the Trusts buildings (i.e. wards, clinics, plantrooms, corridors, roofs etc. to carry out works in areas of extreme temperatures i.e. boiler rooms and underground duct ways. 24. The post holder will be required to be flexible according to the needs and resources of the Department and may be requested to undertake other duties as appropriate to the grade of the post.
