The
Audio Technician
is a junior position that supports and sit within Hotcam’s audio department. The role is chiefly concerned with the preparation, returning and maintenance of audio broadcast equipment. It also involves quality checking to high standards and administrative duties, which cover ensuring the bookings system and associated paperwork are kept up to date.
As you progress in seniority, the role will develop beyond basic departmental responsibilities to providing customer support, troubleshooting, and working with more experienced members of the technical team to build audio solutions. At a more advanced level, Audio Technicians will be expected to create frequency plans for mid-sized shows, factoring in equipment from different manufacturers and multiple types of equipment.
Hotcam is a multi-disciplinary and multi-departmental operation, and our unique selling point is that we provide full solutions that cover camera, systems, audio and project management. As a junior member of the technical team, Audio Technicians are seen as the next generation of Audio and Guarantee Engineers, so upskilling is key part of this role, tying personal development to broader company objectives. They will work under the guidance of the Head of Audio, with a view to completing training in RF, Comms, Dante, PA and mixers.

As you become more experienced there will be the opportunity to work on location alongside seasoned freelancers to help guarantee sound and comms solutions.
The Audio technicians report to the Head of Audio and work in a trainee capacity alongside the Audio Engineers and wider systems team. This team works together to run and maintain the department and will also work towards building a cohesive unit on location that guarantees more complex solutions.
Main duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Supporting the Head of Audio and Audio Engineers. maintaining the day-to-day running of Hotcam’s audio department.
Preparing, returning and maintaining audio broadcast equipment from productions.
Quality checking to extremely high standards with a focus on attention to detail.
Administrative duties, ensuring the bookings system and paperwork are kept up to date.
Maintaining accurate inventory records. This includes keeping track of sub hires and relevant paperwork.
PAT Testing, after training course completed.
Maintain a clean and safe working environment, ensuring the audio warehouse is kept tidy.
Making up of basic cables once trained on soldering.
Disassemble racks and systems, returning items to storage.
Checking in items and returning to storage.
Onboarding assets under the guidance of the senior technical team.
Working with the logistics coordinator and other members of the warehouse team to ensure timely delivery of systems jobs.
Work alongside the check-in and prep shifts to ensure that assets are correctly accounted for.
Working on location in a technical support role where appropriate.
Learn the increasing array of technology available to the engineering department whether that be new fibre, IP or understanding how the new trucks works.
Stay updated with industry trends, best practices, and advancements.
Assist with reporting and overseeing repairs with warehouse and Projects teams.
Carry out drives when required.
Creating frequency plans for mid-sized shows, incorporating equipment from a number of different manufacturers.
Prep 2 and 4 wire comms systems for hire. For small to mid-sized shows you may be asked to be onsite as a comms/audio assistant.
Provide assistance or management for small FOH audio rigs when required. This may also include mixing for stream and/or record.
Provide support to our clients and the Hotcam team, troubleshooting technical problems both from our warehouse and on location. Present practical solutions with Hotcam equipment
Complete drives when required.
