Associate Tax Director: Rentokil

The Associate Tax Director will have two direct reports: UK Tax Compliance Manager and the Tax Reporting Manager.
The Associate Tax Director will be responsible for:
● Establishing and overseeing compliance with the group tax governance framework (tax policies and procedures) for the group in conjunction with the Tax Reporting Manager.
● Supporting and deputising for the head of tax in overseeing all aspects of the tax function
● Keeping up to date with recent UK tax legislation, researching and responding to UK tax technical queries and spotting tax opportunities.
● Having oversight and responsibility of the UK tax compliance process which will include reviewing all UK tax computations and returns (about 30 in total). These are prepared by the UK Tax Compliance Manager and Senior Tax Analyst. The role will also involve assessing optimum utilisation of group tax attributes e.g. use of tax losses and interaction with group relief, corporate interest restriction etc.
● Developing a good understanding of key international tax regimes within the Asia (includes MENAT) and Pacific regions and Rentokil’s tax profile in those territories. Liaise with local management to understand and monitor their tax compliance processes ensuring relevant deadlines are met.
● Having oversight and responsibility of the group tax reporting processes which will include effective tax rate management, cash tax reporting, reviewing UK and overseas tax numbers as part of the year end reporting process and ensuring compliance with US SOX controls.
The Tax Reporting Manager leads / supports these processes.
● Reviewing tax processes and interactions with other functions / businesses with a view to identifying opportunities for efficiencies through process improvement, document standardisation and implementation of new technologies.
● Providing support to the Mergers and Acquisitions team on deals (both in the UK and overseas) including due diligence review, optimal acquisition structuring / funding and review of SPA, tax deeds and warranties and indemnities.
● Providing support on overseas tax audits.
● Managing the interactions with the group treasury team which includes liaising in relation to inter-group loans to ensure the group’s internal borrowings are optimised, preparing credit rating assessments
Requirements:
Chartered Tax Adviser or qualified accountant who has trained in tax
● A minimum of 10 years + experience in corporate tax either in house or professional services, although industry experience preferred
● Excellent understanding of UK tax technical issues
● Solid understanding of treasury taxation issues
● Considerable UK tax compliance experience
● Substantial knowledge of VAT principles
● Solid understanding of UK employment taxes issues
● Good understanding of international tax issues.
● Solid knowledge of tax accounting principles
● Good experience of M&A tax issues
● Good knowledge of IFRS reporting standards, particularly in relation to taxation
● Excellent interpersonal skills and strong command of written and
verbal English
● Ability to be the catalyst for processes improvements / efficiencies
● Ability to work to deadlines, both internal and external, and manage
time constraints
● Proven project management capability
● Ability to manage and develop other members of the tax team.
