Associate / Senior Associate - Banking & Finance

JOB PURPOSE
Our Banking and Finance practice area is looking for an associate or senior associate to join their team to support and lead on a wide variety of transactional and banking advisory work, primarily covering fund finance, leveraged finance and acquisition finance work, but also including real estate finance, debt restructuring, corporate funding, and securitisation. Training on fund finance will be provided to applicants keen to develop expertise in this space.
In this role you will have the opportunity to work within one of the largest banking teams in Scotland, acting both as principal advisors and as Scottish counsel on cross-border deals, with specialists who have a reputation for involvement in market leading and innovative financing deals.
As an experienced banking lawyer, you will, with support from the partners and other senior lawyers, play an integral role in the Banking & Finance team, with responsibility for driving deals forward, developing the practice, building the Brodies brand and mentoring and supporting more junior members of the team.
You will be supported on your personal career development and progression path, including options to obtain dual qualification and join cross-team/sector working groups.
CORE TASKS
Advising clients on banking matters, drafting and negotiating loan and security documentation and legal opinions associated with different types of finance.
Assisting clients to meet their overall business objectives through being a part of a firmwide sector focussed group.
Project managing transactional work and working with other Practice Areas on multi-disciplinary matters.
Working effectively and collaboratively with instructing counsel on cross-border deals where we are not principal advisors.
Conducting legal research and producing papers for client advice and/or wider publication.
Managing and supervising the work of more junior members of the team
Participating in and contributing to the business development activities of the team, practice area and firm
Delivering focused training internally and to clients.
Being aware of Brodies' information security policies, and protect information assets from unauthorised access, disclosure, modification, destruction or interference at all times.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Enthusiasm for finance work and proven track record of technical excellence.
Commercially focused with a passion for keeping up to date with key legal developments.
Excellent attention to detail.
Excellent drafting and written communication skills.
Shows understanding of clients' needs and tailors advice appropriately.
Adapts style of communication appropriately when dealing with colleagues and clients.
