Job DescriptionAssociate Portfolio Manager Leeds & Hybrid workingCompetitive SalaryBorder to Coast is seeking an experienced Investment Professional to be an integral part of the External Managed investment team that is responsible for the design, launch, and ongoing management of all externally managed fund propositions, including, but not limited to: UK, Global, Emerging Market Alpha and Emerging Market Equity funds, Sterling Investment Grade Credit and Multi Asset Credit.This is an exciting opportunity within a flourishing institutional asset management business and a clear progress path to Portfolio Manager.About the role:Our External Management Team currently manage £15bn of assets, across both equity and fixed income funds, and oversee c.20 manager relationships.As Associate Portfolio Manager, you would lead eight to ten manager relationships and would be responsible for all due diligence and ongoing monitoring conducted on selected strategies. Our manager research goes beyond traditional monitoring, and you would be required to undertake granular research (stocks, themes, macro) to understand the key drivers of risk and opportunities within each portfolio.You will work closely with the three portfolio managers and will directly feed into Tactical Asset Allocation processes across both equity and fixed income.Expanding on the above, the role will involve:Fundamental research to support the Team’s understanding of manager and fund-level positioning.Existing manager due diligence (e.g. performance) – periodically and in response to market and manager events.Feeding insight (generated from the above) into strategic and dynamic asset allocation forums.Constructing a manager “bench” to build knowledge of other promising strategies and universe mapping to understand broader market dynamics.Where required, running manager searches to find new and/or replacement managers.Presenting to internal and external stakeholders (including our Partner Funds).About you:The ideal candidate would hold an Investment Management qualification (such as CFA) and have four to six years relevant experience in manager research and oversight, either in a consulting environment or directly at an asset manager. Candidates will have relevant experience in the due diligence of external manager capabilities, preferably in Equities, Fixed Income, or both. Candidates with more of a multi-asset background are also encouraged to apply.Candidates are expected to demonstrate a strong interest and understanding of asset classes and economic fundamentals. You will also display an understanding of qualitative and quantitative due diligence techniques.With high levels of integrity and trustworthiness, you will have excellent relationship management skills and the ability to take the initiative from the get-go. In a fast moving industry, you will have knowledge of how to rapidly assimilate and apply quantities of information.Knowledge of Bloomberg and other portfolio management tools (such as Python and PowerBI) is desirable, but not a requirement.
