Assistant Tax AccountantOur Tier 1 Private Client and Wealth Structuring team are growing and looking for an Assistant Tax Accountant to join the tax compliance team."They can do pretty much anything, from international to agriculture to entrepreneur work" (Chambers HNW Guide 2020).The team enjoys an excellent reputation throughout the country, with both national and international clients. We advise clients on tax and estate planning, offshore tax planning, corporate tax etc.As an Assistant Tax Accountant, you will take responsibility for your work, be trusted to get on with things and will need to manage the responsibility of working on a number of different matters. There will be supervision provided from other parts of the tax compliance team, which conducts itself in a professional, friendly, and supportive way as does the whole of the wider department.Rachel Cadby, a Chartered Accountant, who is a well-established member of the trust management and tax compliance teams says:"Joining a law firm from a firm of accountants may initially seem a scary prospect. However, I found that much of the work I do at Burges Salmon was very similar to work I did before, and you get the extra bonus of a team of lawyers available to help with any difficult legal questions!"WorkOur tax compliance team advises a wide range of clients in a number of specialist tax areas. The team works closely with our international tax lawyers and supports the probate, succession planning and Wills teams. It also deals with trust tax returns and compliance.As an Assistant Tax Accountant, you will assist with the delivery of work in the following key growth areas:IHT returns for predominantly excluded property trusts, which have an increasing exposure to UK taxation. With the right experience, this may include assisting lawyers with the analysis of the structures which can sit beneath such trusts;the preparation of relevant income and stockpiled gains pools for non-UK trustees which may assist with, say, tax advice in relation to distributions to UK resident beneficiaries; andthe preparation of UK personal tax returns, including for UK resident non-domiciled individuals and non-UK residents.These niche areas of both trust and personal taxation provide for a mixed workload, with the opportunity to work across different parts of the wider department.You may also have the opportunity to work on projects such as the de-enveloping of UK properties. This can include assisting with non-resident capital gains tax and corporation tax compliance as well as ATED and ancillary TRS compliance.RequirementsWe are looking for individuals who have relevant previous accountancy and tax experience, ideally in the trust and personal tax fields. You will be looking to continue developing yourself and your capabilities, with the support of the leadership team. You should be interested in picking up a variety of different matters, which can include some complex cases, however, you will be supported by the breadth of knowledge that exists within the department.
