Reporting Structure: This role reports to the Shop Manager.
Job Summary/Objective: The Assistant Shop Manager at WJ Castle Butchers & Delicatessen is responsible for maintaining the quality, standards, and customer service within the shop. In the absence of the Shop Manager, the Assistant Shop Manager will oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring efficient stock management, margin control, waste reduction, and adherence to company standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage the shop during the absence of the Shop Manager, ensuring smooth operations.
Maintain proper stock management and rotation to optimize freshness and minimize waste.
Monitor and manage profit margins to meet company targets.
Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene within the shop.
Assist in the training and development of team members.
Ensure compliance with all company standards and policies.
Qualifications and Skills:
Minimum of 5 years of butchery experience.
2 years of customer service experience.
Level 2 health and hygiene certification desirable.
Previous managerial experience is preferable but not essential.
Experience working in a delicatessen or hospitality environment is a plus.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
Maintain the target Gross Profit Percentage (GP%) for the store.
Monitor and control overhead costs to meet company goals.
Reduce waste percentages within the shop.
Achieve and exceed sales targets.
Ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction.
Responsiveness in handling customer complaints.
Working Conditions:
Standard working hours are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Overtime may be required during peak seasonal periods.
Workdays will be scheduled on a rota from Tuesday to Sunday.
Free parking is available at the rear of the shop.
Uniform will be provided.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary: £28,000 per year based on a 45-hour working week.
