We’re looking for an Assistant Project Manager – 10 month FTC to join our Customer, Strategy and Communications Directorate to work within our Rapid Charging Fund Team. As an Assistant Project Manager, you’ll assist the PMO Manager and the wider team to contribute to the delivery of the Rapid Charging Fund programme. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who is early in their project management career and wants to work in a supportive PMO team in fast paced environment to build their experience.
The fund will subsidise connections between the electricity grid and motorway service areas on and around the Strategic Road Network, improving the Electric Vehicle charging infrastructure and meeting the needs of customers and an expanding EV fleet. As part of the delivery of the RCF, a c.£70 million pilot has been recently launched and will be used to test key aspects of fund policy, processes, and design and to develop learning to inform the main fund.
The role will require 2 days per week in the office with some travel to Birmingham (The Cube) office.
What you’ll be leading on
Support project delivery, including the following areas: project scope, goals, deliverables, risk and issue management, reporting, milestone delivery, financial management
Maintain the programme risks and issues register, engaging with colleagues across the team to review and update risks and issues. Escalate project and programme risks and issues where necessary and manage the mitigation of risks and issues.
Communicate information, including concise briefings and reports, to, or as requested by, the PMO Manager.
Support the management, delivery, and maintenance of project plans, updates to milestones, and prepare workstream reports as directed by the PMO Manager.
Support the tracking/monitoring of the programme with an understanding of associated risks and escalating where appropriate for remedial action.
Provide support with management of programme finances, including tracking of internal and external spend against budgets.
To be successful you’ll need
Experience of working successfully in a programme or project management environment, with proven application of project management approaches to achieve project/programme delivery.
Strong customer focus, with evidence of improving service delivery by seeking, analysing and acting on feedback for internal customers.
Experience supporting the development of complex, medium/high risk projects or high-profile projects or leading and delivering low risk non-complex projects.
Strong analytical skills, to develop, analyse, and provide commentary on project plans and performance.
Working towards appropriate professional PM qualification.
