Assistant General Manager – Biomass Power Station

MC Technical Recruitment are currently recruiting for an Assistant / Deputy General Manager to join a business that provides asset management services across the renewable energy sector in the UK. The Assistant General Manager will be responsible for supporting the commercial and technical performance of a 40MW biomass power station in South Yorkshire on behalf of the plant owner. 

As the Assistant General Manager, you will be responsible for:


  • Working with the General Manger to ensure obligations of the main site contracts are carried out and upheld. This includes operations & maintenance, fuel supply agreement, ash removal and grid connection agreements
  • Providing leadership in safety throughout the business, supporting the O&M contractor, fuel supplier and other site based contractors to establish industry leading safe systems of work and safety culture
  • Assisting the Contract Manager in ensuring there is an efficient and effective system for the receiving, weighing and sampling of biomass fuel deliveries utilising the sites fuel team
  • Monitor and support performance initiatives by the O&M contractor ensuring its compliance with the O&M contract
  • Maintain relationships with the plants other stakeholders including the Environment Agency, the network operator and the local council etc
  • Ensuring the on site fuel testing lab works safely and effectively
  • Deputising for the General Manager when required

To be considered for this role you should have:


  • At least 5 years of large scale power generation experience across operations and/or maintenance ideally at Engineer / middle management level or similar
  • Qualified to at least HNC level in an engineering discipline
  • Experience of managing multiple contracts across a range of stakeholders
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to multi task in a fast paced environment
  • Strong relationship management, interpersonal and networking skills
  • Excellent knowledge of UK legislation relating to the operation and maintenance of power stations
